Wisconsin Boxscore

Second stinker in a row for Wisconsin see-saws their record back under .500.

I will say this much: 4 of the Rattlers' 5 hits were for extra bases. On another day, that might be good news. Gilbert Lara hit a home run. Tucker Neuhaus hit a home run and a double. Jonathan Oquendo got a triple. Caleb Whalen got the single. Four Rattlers finished the game with a batting average under .200. If you are brave enough to check out the box score, you can see who those guys are.

This is a family website, so I can not go into detail on the pitching. One bright spot: Miguel Sanchez has struck out 27 against 4 walks this year. Probably a candidate to be moved up (after Parker Berberet), despite his ERA.

Good outing from Ortiz, never gets old seeing a good performance from a Top 25 pitcher. Betancourt quietly having a nice season, a guy I wrote off long ago.

Ortiz seems to be the forgotten man lately among the pitching prospects (unless you count Bickford I suppose), but he probably shouldn't be. He's having a very nice here albeit in Biloxi, not Colorado Springs.

Carolina coming out guns blazing. 9 in the 1st inning. Ray with a single and a double.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Ortiz fires five no-hit frames for Shuckers

Brewers No. 4 prospect stymies M-Braves in 6-3 Biloxi victory

By John Parker / MiLB.com

Biloxi right-hander Luis Ortiz was roughed up for five runs in his first start of the season on April 9. Since then, he's allowed five runs in six starts covering 31 innings.

The 21-year-old Brewers prospect continued his torrid streak Tuesday, holding visiting Mississippi hitless over five scoreless frames in the Shuckers' 6-3 win over the M-Braves. Ortiz, who did not earn a decision, walked three and struck out six while lowering his ERA to 2.57.

"The number-one thing for Ortiz in each start is his fastball command," said Biloxi pitching coach Chris Hook. "He's really tuned up his game as the season has gone along and executed well today."

Javier Betancourt a 1.104 OPS in 42 May at-bats; Mauricio Dubon 2-for4, now at .305 and leading the Southern League in hits, as the Shuckers' Twitter feed pointed out...

Man Corey Ray needed that.

Has any Brewers prospect concentrated more of his offensive production this year in a few great games than Tucker Neuhaus?

That Colorado Springs box score is just a weird read. Michael Blazek started and pitched four shutout innings? Wei-Chung Wang got a hit? Dillard and Goforth still play for us?

Mudcats ride nine run first to 11-2 victory

Corey Ray reached safely in all five of his at bats on Tuesday night

By Greg Young / Carolina Mudcats | May 16, 2017 11:39 PM ET

The amazing fact from the game story is that the Mudcats equalled their first inning output for the entire rest of the season in this one game. Corey Ray had two hits in the first inning and ended up 3-3 with two walks. Isan Diaz was 2-3 with two walks and cleared the bases with a double in the 1st. Mitch Ghelfi was 2-4. Jake Gatewood made two outs in the first but did get a hit later in going 1-5.

Corbin Burnes (7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) made the start and went 7 innings for the win. He got off to a slow start giving up 3 hits and a run in the first but scattered the rest of the hits. Brad Kuntz and Quintin Torres-Costa each threw an inning.

It's all pinball, baby, the front office has to dissect the performance value with help from the coaching staff - Eric Sogard a good example...

Colorado Springs Game Log

Remember, this madness wasn't in the Springs, either - wild outposts throughout much of the 16-team PCL. Rooting for Toledo to have two more horrible seasons so Mud Hen management finally says goodbye to the Tigers (rumblings last year), but the International League team leads their division in the early going at 19-17.
