AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast Sun. 5/14: "What a week it was for the Brewers as they go 5-1 during a six-game home stand and sweep the New York Mets in dramatic fashion. The week also features Ryan Braun going on the disabled list and inconsistent starting pitching. Host Matt Pauley looks back at the week that was and gets help from Adam Rygg of "The Brewer Nation" and "FanRag Sports". The Brewers Single-A affiliate in the Carolina League is the "Carolina Mudcats". They currently have 10 of the organization's top 30 prospects on the roster. Matt gets an update on the Mudcats from play-by-play voice Greg Young."

For the focus of this specific forum, the Greg Young interview begins at the 55:30 minute mark, but find time to enjoy the full podcast this week.

AUDIO via Lane Grindle's "Brewers on Tap": "We talk with former Brewer pitcher Don Sutton, look at Orlando Arcia's defense and check in on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers."

The episode is now six days old, but is still well worth your time, as the Don Sutton interview is very cool, and the chat with Wisconsin Manager Matt Erickson is well worth the while of minor league diehards.

This is the most grisly day of baseball I've seen in our system all year. Dubon's raking, Guera's on his feet, and that's about it.

I'm actually looking forward to grading more exams now.

Rivera And Wren Homer in 10-5 Loss

Sky Sox record 10 hits in series-opening defeat.

Colorado Springs Box Score

Ugly day for the Sky Sox.

Hiram Burgos was roughed up for for 12 hits (including three home runs) and 10 runs in four innings as Colorado Springs lost to the El Paso Chihuahuas 10-5. Tyler Cravy and Andrew Barbosa each worked two innings without allowing any runs to staunch the flow of blood - but it wasn’t enough for the Sky Sox, who also committed three errors on the night.

The Sky Sox bats were highlighted by Kyle Wren (2-5, HR), Ivan De Jesus Jr. (2-5) and Yadiel Rivera (1-4, HR).

De Jesus Jr. is hitting .337 - which now leads the club in batting average.

The Sky Sox dropped Brinson from the lead off spot and moved him to hitting third. Kyle Wren lead off.

Colorado Springs Game Log

The bottom of the fourth really put the stake into the heart of the Sky Sox as El Paso hit two home runs and scored four runs.

El Paso Bottom of the 4th

Walker Lockett grounds out, second baseman Nate Orf to first baseman Ivan De Jesus Jr.

Franchy Cordero singles on a ground ball to center fielder Lewis Brinson.

Jose Pirela singles on a ground ball to left fielder Kyle Wren. Franchy Cordero to 2nd.

Carlos Asuaje flies out to left fielder Kyle Wren.

Jabari Blash homers (4) on a fly ball to center field. Franchy Cordero scores. Jose Pirela scores.

Christian Villanueva homers (2) on a fly ball to center field.

Rafael Ortega flies out to center fielder Lewis Brinson.

I'm sure that depends on how his first rehab start goes.

Normally they have a plan though.

I had heard the plan was to get him two rehab starts and then activate him. Of course these are always tentative plans, but that's what I've heard them say on broadcasts on a couple occasions.

Payano and Wood Ducks shut out Mudcats 5-0

The Mudcats saw their five game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night

By Greg Young / Carolina Mudcats | May 15, 2017 11:24 PM ET

Not much good to report in this game. The Mudcats could only muster 2 hits against the Wood Ducks. Jake Gatewood was held without a hit ending his hitting streak. Conor Harber (5 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 1 K) started and took the loss. He had trouble controlling his fastball pretty much the whole time. Scott Grist gave up 3 runs in just 2/3 of an inning but pitched into some bad luck as few of the hits he gave up were hit hard. Wuilder Rodriguez has been a bright spot on the staff and finished the game going 2 2/3 innings giving up no hits or walks with 2 strike outs. There was someone from the Brewers in the dugout who looked like Timlin but I won't swear to it.

A Lucas Erceg single and a Mitch Ghelfi double were the only hits for the Mudcats. The Sky Sox and Biloxi carry 3 catchers but the Mudcats do not. This has limited the at bats that Mitch Ghelfi has received but he's made the most of it. He is 3rd on the team in OBP (Gatewood .413, Rijo .400, Ghelfi .365) and OPS (Gatewood .957, Diaz .841, Ghelfi .824).

Final: Mississippi 10, Biloxi 4

Rehabbing Guerra, Shuckers fall again to M-Braves on Monday

Mauricio Dubon doubled twice, picked up his 21st stolen base and had three RBI's in loss

Biloxi Box Score

LHP Nick Ramirez saved a suddenly-struggling RH reliever Josh Uhen from an even worse line by stranding three baserunners; Mauricio Dubon had two of the Shuckers' five doubles - he stands so far above the prospectdom of his teammates on this squad...
