What I am most proud about is how our front office manages our payroll. Can't think of bad contract in the last 4 years that wasn't reared by Attanasio. Sure Braun is payed a lot, but one can argue it's fair market value for his production. Now in the future around 2019/2020 that argument can possibly be made. I wish we took a few more shots in F.A. on 1 year rebound guys, but overall have to be happy how this small market allocates its funds.

I doubt anyone else would have given him that deal. If I recall correctly, Garza was still on the FA market with the offseason passing. Melvin didn't want him and there didn't seem to be a huge market for him, so his agent called Attanasio directly and got the long-term deal no one else was offering.

 

My recollection of Garza's free agency is that his marketability was severely hindered by draft pick compensation, which is why he signed with Milwaukee very close to the start of the season. Hopefully, someone else can confirm.

I don't believe Garza had Type A status. You maybe thinking of Lohse.
