Victor Roache traded to the Dodgers

TURBO
So basically Roache was traded to make room for Michael Choice, an older and worse version of Roache? No matter what your opinion of Victor, that makes little sense.

Roache was traded, not released. Can't judge the deal until we see the return.

They also seem to think highly of Choice, as he starting and batting 3rd.

Wasn't Roache a top 5 or 10 pick before the injury and then fell to the Brewers? If he was that highly rated I can't blame them for taking a chance on a guy.

He was high on draft boards after he hit a ridiculous 30 HRs in 230 ABs his Sophomore year. Then his Junior year he started out hot, but broke his wrist 6 games in. Rewind and I bet in the draft thread everyone loved that pick. Can't believe after such success in college he couldn't hit anywhere in the minors. Wrist injury must have really effected him.

Wrist injuries are difficult - and I think the big thing was that Victor was pretty much a one trick pony. He had power. He was not viewed as particularly athletic. He was not seen as having a great hit tool. Plus, there was some question to just how much power Roache really did have - as he had done a lot of his damage in a weaker baseball conference in college (the Southern Conference). Still, 30 HR was a huge number.

In the end, in addition to the injuries and lack of athleticism, I don't think he ever adjusted to breaking balls - but he wouldn't be the first guy for that to happen.

Roache has meh inducing stats in AA---Choice has made it to the majors and produced meh inducing stats there. Neither are good, but saying Choice is worse than Roache is wrong.
