AUDIO via Matt Pauley's Brewers Extra Innings Podcast Sun. 4/30 - "The Brewers are one month into the season and have a .500 record. It's a good time to look back at the season up to this point. Matt gives you his take on where the team is at and also gets the thoughts of Adam Rygg from "The Brewer Nation". Three weeks into the minor league season, it's also a good time to look back on what the future Brewers are doing. Brad Ford from "Disciples of Uecker" and "Brew Crew Ball" joins Matt to do a thorough review of the Brewers' minor league system." (Running time - 83:00 minutes)

Sky Sox Fall Late In Finale, 3-2

Iowa uses seventh-inning rally to take rain-shortened series.

Colorado Springs Box Score

The Sky Sox had their chances on Monday, but they couldn’t capitalize when the opportunity arose - leading to a 3-2 lose to the Iowa Cubs.

Sky Sox batters would go 1-11 with runners in scoring position - and leave 10 men on base. Thus, they only managed a pair of runs despite getting nine hits and walking five times.

Nate Orf (2-2, 2 BB, 2B) and Brett Phillips (1-3, 2B, BB) were top bats for the afternoon.

On the mound, the Sky Sox got a good outing from Paolo Espino (6.0 IP, 4 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6K), but the pitchers were undone by three errors in the 7th, which helped contribute to a pair of Cubs’ runs. Brent Suter took the lose, giving up a pair of runs on two hits and a walk in just a third of an inning.

After a slow start, Nate Orf has upped his batting average to .244. Andrew Susac, however, has struggled - his average falling to .100 for the year.

Colorado Springs Game Log

The 7th inning was the downfall for the Sky Sox. A wild pitch, three errors and a couple of infield singles lead to a pair of Cubs runs.

Iowa Bottom of the 7th

Pitching Change: Brent Suter replaces Paolo Espino, batting 9th, replacing Kyle Wren.

Jeimer Candelario flies out to center fielder Lewis Brinson.

Victor Caratini singles on a soft ground ball to shortstop Yadiel Rivera.

With Mark Zagunis batting, wild pitch by Brent Suter, Victor Caratini scores. Throwing error by center fielder Lewis Brinson. Throwing error by catcher Andrew Susac.

Mark Zagunis walks.

Taylor Davis singles on a soft ground ball to third baseman Ivan De Jesus Jr. Mark Zagunis advances to 3rd, on a throwing error by third baseman Ivan De Jesus Jr.

Pitching Change: Tim Dillard replaces Brent Suter, batting 9th.

Todd Glaesmann strikes out swinging.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Stephen Bruno replaces David Rollins.

Stephen Bruno doubles (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Lewis Brinson. Mark Zagunis scores. Taylor Davis to 3rd.

Tim Dillard intentionally walks Bijan Rademacher.

Chesny Young grounds into a force out, shortstop Yadiel Rivera to second baseman Nate Orf. Bijan Rademacher out at 2nd.

AUDIO via Friday's Sky Sox Pre-Game Show: RHP Brandon Woodruff

I still say Woodrfuff, despite a no-nonsense Southern charm demeanor, is my favorite farmhand interview subject.

About pitching in big league camp this past spring, to paraphrase, "Well if I can get three men out in an inning, I can get 27 out."

Yes, you can, young man, and you will...

Comeback bid falls short in 8-7 loss to Buies Creek

Isan Diaz and Luis Aviles both hit home runs in Monday's 8-7 home loss

By Greg Young / Carolina Mudcats | May 2, 2017 12:09 AM ET

Carolina could not get the final hit to come all the way back and fell to Buies Creek. Eduardo de Oleo, making only his second appearance since hitting 3 home runs in a game against the Mudcats, victimized them again going 2-3 with two doubles, a walk and a sacrifice fly. He was 0-3 with 2 strikeouts in his last game.

Cody Ponce (5 1/3 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR) started and took the loss. The two walks were as many as he had recorded in his other appearances combined. Colton Cross and Scott Grist finished the game. The Mudcats scored 3 runs twice on a long home run by Isan Diaz (2-5, HR, 3 RBI) and a bases loaded double by Corey Ray (2-5, 2 doubles, 3 RBI). Luis Aviles (2-5, HR) added a solo home run. Weston Wilson reached base 3 times with a walk and two hits.

Found it interesting that Isan Diaz has elected to not have walk-up music played at home games recently. I don't remember a past instance of a player requesting this before. It may be an attempt at maintaining concentration while coming to bat, but the stadium staff still played sound effects in between pitches at one point when Isan was batting with the bases loaded.
Not just “at Night” anymore.
