Clark and Ray have both been real disappointments so far. It's still early but we need to see both guys make the leap and be the top prospects they are drafted to be.

Missing on first round pitchers happens, but OFers really shouldn't be the case.

At what point does a small sample turn into flip-flopping Harrison and Clark?

First round picks get a lot of rope but certainly Harrison has to be close to getting a promotion.

Wisconsin doubleheader rained out again. The final three games of the four game series were washed out. One game will not be made up. Two of the games will be made up as part of back to back doubleheaders on June 15th/16th.

The Rattlers are off tomorrow, so assuming Tuesday's home game is actually played, the Rattlers will have had 4 days off in a row.

Meanwhile, Carolina just blew another late lead.

Harrison needs to stay in Wisconsin for the time being. Let the poor guy have an extended run of success for once. Maybe revisit at the All-Star break.

Clark has a .358 OBP through 4 ABs today so it's not like he is totally flopping. He looks a bit lost on defense and has an obnoxious number of strikeouts, but I don't think he's done enough to get demoted.

Isan Diaz on a nice hot streak...Lucas Erceg not so much.

Haha I literally said the same thing a week ago, so true. The dude needs the big confidence booster for at least half a year.

Mudcats outlast Keys 10-8 in extra-innings road win

Trent Clark set a career high with five hits in Sunday's road win

By Greg Young / Carolina Mudcats | April 30, 2017 8:12 PM ET

16x9_TrentClark_1t2mki4t_o136y0fz.jpg

It looked bad when Luis Aviles had a ground ball go through the wickets. When the runner tried to steal second, nobody covered the base and the throw to third from the outfield got away. Fortunately, Nate Griep was backing up third and then worked out of the jam. Jake Gatewood hit a home run to give the Mudcats the lead in the 12th and they then held on.

Kodi Medeiros (5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 7 K) got the start and had maybe his best outing of the year. Eric Hanhold then came on and did not. Nate Griep (3 2/3 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K) went the extra mile in this game and ended up with the win while Scott Grist got the last two outs to pick up the save in his first appearance of the year.

Jake Gatewood went 2-6 with the game winning home run. His 3rd in as many games. Trent Clark, as mentioned in the game story, had his best hitting day yet going 5-6 with a double, 3 runs batted in and a stolen base. Weston Wilson was 3-5 with a double.

Carolina Box Score

Carolina Game Log

Can't see this enough.

Carolina Top of the 12th

Jake Gatewood homers (4) on a fly ball to center field.

Trent Clark singles on a line drive to right fielder Ademar Rifaela.

With Luis Aviles batting, wild pitch by Franderlin Romero, Trent Clark to 2nd.

Luis Aviles flies out to left fielder Randolph Gassaway.

With Max McDowell batting, Trent Clark steals (4) 3rd base.

Max McDowell out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Josh Hart. Trent Clark scores.

Weston Wilson pops out to second baseman Drew Turbin.

Let's give Scott Grist some credit. He was put in a very difficult position here and came through.

Frederick Bottom of the 12th

Ademar Rifaela flies out to center fielder Corey Ray.

Alex Murphy walks.

Steve Laurino doubles (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Corey Ray. Alex Murphy to 3rd.

Pitching Change: Scott Grist replaces Nate Griep.

Josh Hart called out on strikes.

Ricardo Andujar flies out to center fielder Corey Ray.

Cory Ray and Erceg are the two black holes on a team that walks at very good rate. Thus far that has really surprised me as both are college ready, professional hitters. Ray at 4% and Erceg 5%.

Others:

Rijo 23.5%

Clark 19%

Gatewood 16.5%

Stokes 12.5%

Aviles 12%

Wilson 11%

Belonis 9%

Diaz 9%

Mcdowell 8.5%

I wonder if the high strikeout rates is due to an emphasis put on to working counts, being patient, and trying to be picky at the plate. When young and learning to be a patient hitter, there are a lot of K's looking. i use to have a great site (minorleaguecentral.com) that tracked minor league sabre metrics including Ks swing, looking, swings out and in the strike zone....then line drives, fly outs, ground outs. I believe site has shutdown now sadly.

After all my research over past few years, the first and most important stat I look at is BB% and K% Most top tier MLB sit in the 10%+ range in BB% and hoover around 20% or lower in K's. To me that is the first key to a great hitter at the plate....then I start to look at the other stats.

Way I grade players out, Stokes is always a stud and one of best players in our system. Feel he will never get the love he deserves and will stay overshadowed by all the "big name" OFs in our system. He is a 12% BB 16% K 7.5 Speed 13% ISO and 120 RC+ career guy to date. .370 OBP .420 SLG . Doesn't set world on fire but man he is solid as solid gets!

Coulter, Shuckers rally for fourth straight win on Sunday

Shuckers go for five-game sweep on Monday

Yesterday's Link Report detailed just how big (and maybe unlikely) this series' events have been so far. The clutch action from the Shuckers, both on the mound and at bat, continues, and isn't it fun to read about (today was another day when I was able to hear some of Chris Harris' call, surely this has been a welcome turn of events for him as well as the players).

Biloxi Box Score

Until Taylor Williams gets stretched out, extra-inning games anywhere near his start date are going to be an issue. Kudos, Forrest Snow and Josh Uhen here.

Biloxi --

Team RISP: 5-for-16.

Team LOB: 8.

Pensacola --

Team RISP: 2-for-16.

Team LOB: 12.

Biloxi Game Log

Jacob Nottingham was 0-for-4 with his 2nd passed ball of the season. His OPS is .505 after 60 AB's, rather than harp on it, let's try and revisit it in writing after the next 60 AB's (approx. 20 more games, late May).

Like others have stated. Clark and Ray has done nothing to deserve a demotion. They have had a rough month hitting.... no need to panic. Not to mention Ray missed most of the off-season with an injury. He got some ABs towards the end of spring then started out in extended Spring. Give guy a chance to settle in. Outside of Gatewood and Stokes, none of the big names in lineup have been close to consistent. Diaz finally starting to get hot. Erceg was hot but has died off. Erceg and Stokes are only 2 everyday players striking out less than 20%. Aviles and Diaz are at 24% Gatewood 28% Mcdowell respectable 20%, Wilson 27%, Belonis 30%

I am on opposite side on Harrison in that come late May/ Early June, if he is still producing he needs to come up. I get one month is too short though. Want to boost his confidence, getting promoted and placed back with your team will do that. He is only one in that wave who was held back and for good reason. Sadly for him he has had major success at both Helena and Wisconsin for stretches but right when he has figured it out and is rolling the baseball gods have struck him down.
