Sky Sox Shut Out Iowa, 7-0

Offense strikes early as four pitchers combine to hold Cubs scoreless.

The Sky Sox scored four runs in the 1st, and Hiram Burgos (5.0 IP, 4 hits, 1 BB, 7 K, 0 ER) and the bullpen did the rest, shutting out the Iowa Cubs 7-0.

 

The Sky Sox hitters had nine hits - as well as four walks - and were lead by Eric Sogard (2-5, 2B, 3 RBI), Yadiel Rivera (2-3, 2 BB) and Tyler Heineman (1-2, 2 BB.

 

In addition to the fine performance from Burgos (who got his first win of the season), Wei-Chung Wang, Tyler Cravy and Rob Scahill held the Cubs scoreless over the final four innings.

 

The Iowa Cubs went 0-11 with runners in scoring position.

 

Garrett Cooper drove in two runs in the 1st with a double. He now has 21 RBI for the year, which ranks second in the PCL.

Late collapse stuns Mudcats in 11-9 loss

The Mudcats lost a 6-3 lead in the eighth on Friday night

The headline is wrong. It was 9-3 when the collapse occurred. This was a game that took over 4 hours to play largely because the umpire refused to call strikes, especially when hitters got to strike two. The game ended up with 19 walks and both benches furious with the umpire. Joe Ayrault was run in the 8th inning when a ground ball, apparently foul, was called fair by the home plate umpire which contributed to the Mudcats' collapse. A dropped pop fly by Trent Clark that would have ended the 8th with the Mudcats still ahead also contributed.

 

Conor Harber got the start and went 5 innings. Jon Olczek took the loss. Corey Ray hit two doubles. Here's the box score:
