All-Brewers outfield headlines Prospect Team of the Week

The latest edition of MLBPipeline.com's Prospect Team of the Week (April 17-23) is led by an all Milwaukee Brewers outfield, with Lewis Brinson, Monte Harrison and Demi Orimoloye all earning a spot. This marks the first time one team has accounted for all three outfield spots on the Team of the Week.

Taylor Williams was removed for Biloxi in the 2nd inning after retiring two of the first three batters in the inning. He had thrown 45 pitches at that point. Does anyone know if the removal was simply due to a pitch limit or if it was something more? I think his previous high this year was 46 pitches, so hoping it was just pitch limit related.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Colorado Springs Box Score

Brewer fans are hoping they saw a little of the future on Monday when Brandon Woodruff took the mound against Nashville. The big right-hander proceeded to throw six innings of three hit, one walk, no run ball to lead the Sky Sox to an 8-3 victory. Woodruff struck out five while getting the victory. His ERA dropped to 1.61 - impressive considering three of his four starts have come in the thin Colorado air.

Despite Woodruff’s stellar game, the Sky Sox bullpen was a mixed bag of results. Wei-Chung Wang (0.2 IP, 3 hits, 1 BB, 2 ER) and Tyler Cravy (0.2 IP, 3 hits, 1 BB, 1 ER) were ineffective, but Andy Oliver and David Goforth combined to shut down a Nashville rally in the 8th. Rob Scahill added a scoreless 9th

The Sky Sox hitters were effective, producing nine hits and three walks. Brett Phillips (2-3, BB, HR), Lewis Brinson (2-3, BB, SB, CS), Ivan De Jesus Jr. (2-4, 2B), and Kyle Wren (2-3, 3B) were the top bats for the night.

The Nashville Sounds had their chances on Monday night, but they left nine runners on base as they went 1-7 with runners in scoring position.

At 12-5, the Sky Sox have the best record in the PCL.

Colorado Springs Game Log

The Sky Sox up 4-2 in the 8th, the Sounds were threatening to strike with a big inning when they first two batters got on base. However, Andy Oliver induced a double play, and then David Goforth struck out Matt Chapman to end the threat.

Matt Chapman called out on strikes.

The Sky Sox then added four in the bottom of the 8th to seal the game.

How about Brett Phillips? Pretty much forgotten by every prospect list out there, showing so far this year that he is still very much a relevant part of the Brewers future outfield. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in Milwaukee this summer.

Final: Jackson 11, Biloxi 0

Generals pound out 11 extra-base hits in win over Shuckers

Michael Reed extended his hitting streak to six games in the loss

At least there was this --

Biloxi Box Score

Take all the good vibes you just read about above in the Springs and try to find an inkling of them in the Shuckers' season so far, hard to do...

Jacob Nottingham started at first base here, he's 3-for-his-last-30, and to guess, Brewers may want to give Dustin Houle more looks behind the plate after his exciting spring training performance.

Hitting coordinator Kenny Graham needs to give hitting coach Sandy Guerrero a second set of eyes sooner rather than later.

Eight errors now for Mauricio Dubon...

that whole team is hitting over .300 more or less. hard to say what's real and what's Colorado Springs.

You'll learn more in the podcast linked below, but this Diamondbacks' A-Ball pitching staff is insanely strong in this first month.

Demi Orimoloye has been batting near the bottom of the order, 0-for-4 here but a 7-game hit streak preceded (12-for-31, one walk).

HAs anyone heard anything on Taylor Williams yet? I know some believe pitches per inning is an even bigger deal than overall pitches in a game. 45 in two innings is a ton for a guy just coming back from TJ. Hoping they were being careful, and he didn't have a set-back.

I don't recall them mentioning anything was off...but I was watching 3 games at one time too. He was absolutely atrocious in the first inning and still shaky in the second so they probably took him out not to kill his arm.

There should be absolutely nothing wrong with Williams. I watched the game, he was just throwing a lot of pitches laboring through a lot of batters. The play before he left, Dubon intentionally dropped a soft line drive in order to turn a double play, which was called as one out, otherwise Williams would have got through the inning. Brewers have been limiting him to around 45-55 pitches each start in 2017. That shouldn't be surprising. Surprising thing is that he didn't start in extended spring, in my opinion.

Woodruff has a 1.61 ERA with three of his four starts in Colorado Springs, so one of those two things is for real.
