No witch hunt.....the league and the players union agreed that they wanted to get drugs out of the game. Clean players didn't want to be forced to use steroids to compete with juicers.

Glad to see cheaters get punished.....hopefully,it leads to less cheating.

Not surprised. I am convinced over 50% of the league is using something and I personally couldn't care less. MLB is the only sport that is on a witch hunt to burn people.

Agreed completely. This is always my argument to the jackasses who boo Braun. Everyone is on something and pushing the envelope, that's why players today don't look like Ben Ogilvie or Robin Yount.

Polanco's shoulder isn't going to hold up a full season either. I still believe the Pirates finish in 4th this year.

I haven't seen/heard anything about the Pirates yet this season, is this correct?

If so, what are the details? Can you google that for me?

Thnx, mangement.

I wonder how strictly the Dominican players get tested before they sign? Not a lot of incentive for them not to do steroids when they are looking at millions in signing bonuses and guaranteed contracts

Agree on the not caring. But you have to remember MLB has the strictest testing in the world, if the public generally assumes everyone in baseball is doing it (in spite of so few failing tests in the most stringent testing system) then they should assume it in all other sports as well. If anything, 3-5 players per year of significance that have been getting caught the last few years shows the testing is working. Would be a bigger red flag to me if no one was getting caught. Personally I don't care and think baseball should lighten up a bit and allow more things to keep the best players on the field while doing their best to hold back the anabolic Canseco muscle building stuff. Obviously that's a fine line to balance though and tough problem to solve.

[sarcasm]Well there's another team that is open for Braun to be traded to.[/sarcasm]

That isn't really true. Players were told not to work out because everyone wanted lean muscle back in the 80s. The players are just bigger, it is true in every sport. Yeah guys use PEDs too but it isn't all of them.

Polanco has been struggle with a shoulder injury for 3 years now but it has really bothered him this spring. He got a PRP in it late last season but it hasn't seemed to settle it down.

Don't know the answer to this but he was tested before the WBC and it didn't catch anything. There are rumors that a major league baseball test caught him in spring training before he played in the WBC. So he may have played knowing he was going to be suspended. That seems a bit unethical on his part.

If Marte ends up coming back in 80 games it looks like it will be against Milwaukee. It will be interesting to see the fans reaction to him but I imagine they continue to give Braun a hard time while giving Marte a nice ovation.

Yep

Athletes are bigger in every sport as everything from weight training, diet, advances in medicine, etc has lead to athletes being bigger, stronger, and faster than athletes in the past, regardless of PED usage. There is so much money in pro sports today that team training staffs are always looking out for cutting edge ways to make their players better and many of these athletes also hire their own personal trainers, along with dietary specialists.

Hell, even many golfers today are using weight training, diet, and science to allow them to drive and hit balls at distances which wasn't the case in the past.

With so many millions available to athletes in every pro sport, for most of them who aren't naturally ultra super gifted, those who don't stay in tip top shape, they'll get left behind by those who do.

Sounds like an excuse to cheer for Braun and think he did no wrong.

Drug testing is about fairness and protecting player safety. It's essential to maintaining the integrity of the game.

There are thousands of passed drug tests every year and there are plenty of allowed supplements. No excuse to get caught.

I've long gotten over any animosity I briefly had towards Braun. He's one of the all-time great Brewers and he served his sentence, damn right I'm going to cheer for him. I'm also not naïve enough to think that every athlete out there isn't looking for some kind of edge via training, supplements, etc.

I guess now Mc Cutchen will have to get back on 'em now that Marte's been caught.

BTW youse guys: I get the Reds games and I watched 2 of your games with them last week. You look like an entirely different team. That Thames is all the talk around baseball.

I'm pleasantly surprised that the Cubs didn't come out of the shoot like last year. It could turn out to be pretty good race between them, you and the improved Reds.

(no, I don't include the Cards...we won't do squat until Matheny is gone, and that ain't happening)

The fed ex guy didn't follow procedure so Braun didn't do anything wrong by bringing that up. That test should have been thrown out when it reached the facility and a new one drawn at the next chance they had. Still don't get why people somehow blame that on Braun. The fed ex employee screwed up. It is like blaming a criminal when someone screws up the evidence in an investigation.

Edge sure, but that could come from just working hard, diet, different training techniques. Braun did what he did full well knowing it was illegal. He didn't even claim the "i didn't know" like this dude did today. Can disagree on whether you think it should be illegal, but he knew it was and did it anyway. 20 years ago I'd guess the majority of players were doing PEDs that would now be illegal (though they weren't banned at the time). Definitely nowhere near that anymore or when Braun did it.

I still root for him without hesitating as I don't care about PEDs, he almost won us a series by doing it, and frankly he's just an incredible hitter. When healthy he's amazing to watch, he so rarely hits a weak ball.
