Broxton is just lost right now. He's guessing on everything and I can't remember the last AB that he wasn't down 0-2 or 1-2. I don't know what the answer is to break out of it again, try getting a bunt down or something but he's in a funk.

Someone should tell Broxton he is allowed to swing at the first pitch. Seems like every single AB starts with a fastball right down the middle that he watches and then he is stuck playing catchup.

 

And he finally swings at the first pitch but Anderson throws him an off speed pitch and he misses it. Broxton looks hopeless right now.

An old article and yes it talks about batting average. Basically any time a batter gets down to two strikes it is in the pitchers favor while the article only shows batting average and slugging OBP does also fall but not nearly as drastic as average and slugging does. Whenever the pitcher is ahead OBP is at about .200 YIKES!

 

OPS+ shows this even better as any time a pitcher gets to 2 strikes OPS+ is below 100. Last year the OPS+ for 0-2 pitches was 2 and 1-2 was at 13 so basically if you are hitter don't wait just swing at anything that is in the hitting zone no matter the count.

I'm trying to remember if Brauny and Prince were ever as hot at the same time as Braun and Thames have been recently. Jesus. Braun is OPSing 1.100 right now after this recent mashing session, and Thames is laughing at him like he's a rook.

 

I've never seen a hitter as locked in as Thames is right now. Never. He's putting up video game numbers.

 

Oh no, Braun struck out. Down to only 1.088. But he's stealing bases, too. And playing really great defense.

 

This is fun. It won't last forever, but seeing the Cardinals in the cellar while we're a half a game out of first warms the cockles of my heart. :D

Had hockey tonight and just caught up with the game just now. Wow is what Thames doing just flat out amazing. So fun to watch.
