Peralta matches career high with 9 Ks in 5-1 loss to Frederick

Peralta and Diplan combined to total 15 strikeouts in Saturday's loss

By Greg Young / Carolina Mudcats | April 15, 2017 9:45 PM ET

As mentioned above, Peralta was pitching while there were shadows between home and the pitcher and both pitchers were racking up strikeouts while the hitters were having trouble seeing. Freddie Peralta (5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 9 K, 1 HR) took the loss. Marcos Diplan (4 IP, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) finished for the Mudcats. Max McDowell had 2 hits including a double. Not much else worth mentioning for the offense.

Suter Silences Sounds, 6-1

Sox offense scores four runs in the final three innings to blow open pitcher's duel.

Colorado Springs Box Score

Ryan Cordell (1-4) smacked a 2-run homer (his 3rd of the season) in the first inning, giving the Sky Sox a lead that they would never relinquish. The Sky Sox pitchers, lead by Brent Suter (5 IP, 4 hits, 0 ER, 2BB, 3K), Andrew Barbosa (2 IP, 0 ER, 5K), and Wei-Chung Wang (1 IP, 0 ER, 1K), limited Nashville to just one run on six hits and five walks.

In addition to Cordell's home run, Brett Phillips (2-3, BB) and Tyler Heineman (2-4) each had a pair of hits. Garrett Cooper had a single in the 8th inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games. The team again struggled with runners in scoring position, going 2-12.

The Sky Sox are now 6-3 for the season.

Some impressive pitching tonight. Suter and Webb with 5 shutout innings and Ortiz with 5 no hit innings.

The Crew may have been a little too quick to send Suter down. If Milone doesn't get any better, it may be time for Suter to go back to Milwaukee.

Surprised Wang's in the pen, though... you'd think they'd keep him in the rotation. He's done well there the last couple of years.

Braden Webb is really fun to watch pitch. He has a unique delivery and has great stuff, and today he carved up the Kernals' lineup. I was particularly impressed with his changeup, a pitch he needs to develop to remain as a starter. If today is any indication, he's well down that path. I have a feeling he'll be moving up prospect lists rapidly in the near future.

Webb gets credit for a complete game 2 hitter despite pitching only five innings. Somewhat curiously, while Webb is credited with a complete game, he is not credited with a shutout on his MiLB page. Don't know if that's a common happening with rain-shortened complete games or not. I'm not going to think about it too much more, either.

Tucker Neuhaus got on base three times and raised his 10-game OPS to 853. Monte Harrison returned to the lineup after hitting a ball with his face and went 1-3. Gilbert Lara hit his first home run of the season.

Wisconsin Log

Final: Pensacola 2, Biloxi 1, 11 innings

11th inning homer dooms Shuckers on Saturday

Mauricio Dubon set a club record with four steals in the loss

Luis Ortiz tossed five no-hit innings on Saturday night (Chris Birch photo)

Biloxi Box Score

From the linked summary you just read:

"Deck McGuire and the Pensacola bullpen retired 26 straight Shuckers to finish the game after Mauricio Dubon's third-inning single."

Sigh...

Biloxi Game Log

Not a very flattering picture of Luis Ortiz above, especially after we read about all those Fresno-based early-morning workouts with Matt Garza, but hard to quibble too much with his results on this night - lifted after 83 pitches, 50 strikes in five hitless innings (four walks, five K's).

Does how much he weighs matter if he pitches like that?

My thinking: No.
