FYI, in particular Biloxi fans - It seems Montgomery's MiLB.TV feed may not provide audio at all, just video. You could try listening to Chris Harris on a separate window or device and try to synch it best you can, otherwise forego the video for this series and just focus on Chris' call.

Well that's a nice start to the season for Carolina

6 - 0 and batted around in the 1st.

this team is gonna be fun to watch

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Trey Supak has had a... pretty good first 4 innings.

Make it 5

Pretty good first 5.

Burnes hasn't been bad either, and Lopez is off to a solid start.

The kid we shelled at Frederick is Baltimore's second-rounder from last year, preseason #6 prospect for them.

Carolina is undergoing a complete meltdown in 6th.

Except this Carolina team just keeps slugging. This team is going to be fun to follow, what a difference a year makes at High-A in the Brewers organization.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Just got back from Frederick. Akin, the Keys' starter, was a top draft choice for the Orioles last year. He looked like he was throwing pretty well but with little control. When he started steering it in, he got hit. There were massive winds blowing out to mainly right field which made fly balls interesting. Huge game for Luis Aviles. Burnes was the only pitcher in the game who looked in command. It was cold and windy though. Maybe not as bad as some days in Appleton though.

Harrison Homers for Rattlers in 1-0 Win

Supak, Desguin, & Barker combine on five-hit shutout

Wisconsin Boxscore

The Rattlers took 16 2/3 innings this season to score their first run, but that run was good enough today thanks to amazing pitching from righties Trey Supak, Jordan Desguin, and Luke Barker. The run was courtesy of Monte Harrison, who drilled a home run to left field with two out in the seventh. Monte also added a double in the sixth. Ronnie Gideon and Joantgel Segovia both had two singles.

Ryan "The Other" Aguilar had the other Rattlers extra base hit, a double in the seventh. Aguilar also participated in the strangest play in the game that I saw. The game log says that Ryan lined into a double play in the second, but... Ryan hit a line drive towards the third baseman, who appeared to trap the ball, and with no immediate call from the ump Ronnie Gideon (who was at first) kept going from first to second. The River Bandits played on as well, going around the horn to complete the play as if it had been a ground ball, though Aguilar beat the throw at first. He thought. Eventually the umpire decided that the River Bandits third baseman had indeed caught the line drive, and Gideon was ruled doubled off of first, via an assist from the second baseman. Manager Matt Erickson protested, but he doth protested in vein.

Oh, and also Trey Supak had a perfect game going through 5 2/3 innings before surrendering a double. Supak did a great job moving his fastball around the zone, and he was throwing well, in the 92-93 MPH range, though his fastball doesn't have a ton of natural movement. He mixed in a big curve effectively. Supak got most of his seven strikeouts on the fastball. I don't recall seeing a changeup, though I stopped watching after the 4th inning due to having kids.

Desguin pitched a scoreless inning and two thirds. He left men on first and third with one out in the 8th, but debuting former indy baller Luke Barker came in a promptly induced a double play ball to get out of the jam. Barker is a big dude, with some physical similarities to Jake Arrieta. (Make no mistake - not a comp to Jake Arrieta.) The one fastball velocity I heard on Barker was 89. Barker got himself in trouble in the ninth, but with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, he induced an atom ball that third baseman Jose Cuas speared, and threw back to second for the easy double play.

Final: Biloxi 5, Montgomery 3

Lopez regains dominance in win over Biscuits

Victor Roache had three hits and Michael Reed homered in the victory

Jorge Lopez tossed six shutout innings and struck out seven on Friday night (Jason Carter photo)

Biloxi Box Score

SS Mauricio Dubon, CF Johnny Davis, RF Michael Reed, LF Victor Roache, and C Jacob Nottingham all reached base three times...

Minor league Rule 5 selection RHP Matt Ramsey was once on the Marlins 40-man roster. He's clearly been identified as the Shuckers' closer to begin the season. This is his age 27 season. He missed all of 2015 with a lower-back injury. Finally tonight learned what that injury was, it had previously been known as "undisclosed".

Biloxi Game Log

When playing defense to protect the lead in the 9th, Mike Guerrero tightened up the defense as follows --

Montgomery Bottom of the 9th

Defensive Substitution: Javier Betancourt replaces third baseman George Iskenderian, batting 8th, playing second base.

Defensive switch from second base to third base for Angel Ortega.

Colorado Springs Box Score

I feel sorry for those that left this game early.

The Sky Sox were down by five runs late, but rallied to get two runs in the 7th and three more in the 9th to tie the game. Then Omaha grabbed the lead in the 10th by getting two more runs, making it 7-5. But the Sky Sox weren’t done, plating three runs in the bottom of the frame to win the game 8-7.

The Sky Sox had 14 hits in the game, led by Kyle Wren (2-5, walk), Garrett Cooper (2-5), Brett Phillips (2-5, HR, 2B), Nate Orf (2-4, 3B, BB) and Yadiel Rivera (3-4, BB).

The Colorado Springs pitching staff was uninspiring, giving up 15 hits in 10 innings (although they only walked two batters).

Colorado Springs Game Log

Here’s the rundown of the dramatic 10th inning - keyed by Phillips 2-run HR to tie the game.

Col. Springs Bottom of the 10th

Pitching Change: Andrew Edwards replaces Al Alburquerque.

Garrett Cooper singles on a ground ball to second baseman Whit Merrifield.

Brett Phillips homers (1) on a fly ball to right field. Garrett Cooper scores.

Nate Orf walks.

Nick Noonan grounds into a double play, shortstop Ramon Torres to first baseman Ryan O'Hearn. Nate Orf out at 2nd.

Yadiel Rivera singles on a ground ball to left fielder Billy Burns.

With Tyler Heineman batting, Yadiel Rivera steals (1) 2nd base.

Tyler Heineman walks.

Pitching Change: Mark Peterson replaces Andrew Edwards.

Kyle Wren singles on a ground ball to center fielder Bubba Starling. Yadiel Rivera scores. Tyler Heineman to 2nd.

Quote from the Quad Cities dugout: ""Their starter (Trey Supak) was very good,'' said manager Russ Steinhorn. "He was throwing his fastball for strikes and mixing in his off-speed stuff. He did a good job of working both sides of the plate and pounding the zone.''
