Noting SS Jean Carmona's jump from the DSL to Maryvale by copying some of Toby's Link Report text --

Another day, another surprise promotion from the DSL, another loss. As I said above, 17 year old bonus baby Jean Carmona was promoted stateside after a successful DSL campaign. Carmona had 18 errors (.919 FPCT) in the DSL. Carmona slashed .302/.406/.447 for the main DSL squad. In addition to the excellent OBP, his ISO of .145 was about 1.7 times DSL league average. So the 6'1, 183 pound switch hitter has some thump. The concept of a 17 year old Latin American signee playing in the AZL for the Brewers is somewhat novel, and encouraging. Then again, the same was said about Gilbert Lara.

RHP Tim Dillard is removed from the Sky Sox roster for the 7th time this season, placed on the Helena paper roster.

Technically, that move was to make room for RHP Hiram Burgos, up from Biloxi.

But lookie here.

If not a misplaced entry by one of the affiliates, RHP Corbin Burnes, who already skipped Wisconsin, is double-jumping from Carolina to Biloxi to Colorado Springs this year.

Wow. Wasn't Burnes drafted last year?

Yep. I wouldn't even be surprised if is put on the 40-man roster and brought up in September. DFAing Paolo Espino isn't going to crush anyone (except Paolo). Burnes might be a nice live arm for the rest of the season. They could still start him at AAA next year so he doesn't start his arby clock just yet, but the experience might be good for him - and he might help out.

Brewers reach into the independent ranks after Lewis Brinson's injury, sign veteran speedster OF Quintin Berry (career stats).

This will aid the organization on a few fronts -- pick up AB's for the AAA club through the end of the Sky Sox regular season, cover for September call-ups after September 1st and for Colorado Springs' run in the Pacific Coast League playoffs, and potentially add a pinch-runner element for the big league club for September or even the postseason.

The now 32-year-old Berry was added to playoff team rosters with Detroit in 2012 and Boston in 2013 (specifically for that pinch-running purpose with the Red Sox). We had recently mentioned here that Biloxi's Johnny Davis could potentially be added to the 40-man roster as of September 1st for that reason as well.

Also, listen if you haven't already --

Very interesting topic -- the dynamic of AAA rosters for the playoffs

Here's the Atlantic League press release on the signing.

At Colorado Springs, RHP Hiram Burgos is placed on the Helena paper roster to make room for the arrival of the outrighted Michael Blazek.

Doesn't seem to me any of the other seven Pioneer League parent clubs quite make use of the taxi squad flexibility quite this way, and the Brewers' use of the practice, growing in recent years, doesn't seem to be upsetting MiLB.

Makes sense, it'd be a nightmare to have to release guys, bring them back, etc.

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "This week’s Chat with Matt Erickson covers Keston Hiura’s first game in the field, Devin Hairston, Zach Clark, Josh Pennington, updates on Cameron Roegner and Tucker Neuhaus, and the Rattlers being in the pennant race."

In very vague terms, we learn Roegner is likely done for 2017. Better news on Neuhaus.

In this Beloit Daily News article (Roegner's home town), friend of Brewerfan Josh Flickinger fills us in on the LHP.

The Sky Sox announce the Berry signing. To make room on the roster, RHP Angel Ventura was placed on the 7-day DL retroactive to 8/18. No word if Ventura is ailing in any way.

Helena RHP Braulio Ortiz, the hulking veteran RHP who has only pitched once since July 22nd, has been placed on the Carolina disabled list.

The Helena roster was maxed at 35, and by moving him with the placement, it provides a bit more flexibility with both the Helena actual roster and its paper roster for AAA taxi squad purposes.

No word on the nature of Ortiz' injury.

Read about CF Pablo Abreu's stateside bump to Maryvale here.

***

At Colorado Springs, RHP Junior Guerra goes on the Temp Inactive List to make room for RHP Aaron Brooks, claimed on waivers from the Cubs.

***

RHP Adrian Houser is no longer considered (technically) on Tommy John injury rehab. He was transferred from Biloxi's DL to Wisconsin's active roster, as his 30-day rehab period in Maryvale reached its end. To make room on the Timber rattlers roster, RHP Josh Pennington was placed on the DL with an undisclosed injury.

Love this move --

Milwaukee transfers CF Tristen Lutz and IF/OF Kenny Corey from Helena back to Maryvale, not because of poor performance (hardly), but in order to help the Arizona Brewers in their single-elimination playoffs.

Both Lutz and Corey spent half their seasons with the Maryvale club, so they'll get to reunite with their original professional teammates and try to win a title. Very cool -- don't get hurt in the championship dogpile, guys!
