2017 Minor League Transaction Thread

Not sure if this has been noted yet (maybe it has)... But the Brewers have signed 1B Chris Colabello to a contract and have assigned him to the Sky Sox. It doesn't show in the Brewers transactions page, but he's definitely on the Sky Sox roster.

Another odd pickup...and batting cleanup in first game...promote someone.

From Thursday's Helena Independent Record, as we linked to last Friday AM --

Yeraldy Martinez reached on a fielder’s choice and, as Gilbert Lara made his play for home, sliding feet first, he was tagged out. On the play, though, Lara positioned his leg in an awkward manner and could not get back to his feet afterward. He had to be helped off the field with his right leg cocked at an outward angle, unable to put any weight on it.

Lara officially joined the Brewers on Thursday, dropping down from the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He played 12 games in Helena in 2015, and then 59 in 2016. He started the 2017 season in Wisconsin. The 19-year-old is in his third pro season. At Wisconsin, he was hitting .193 and had 22 RBIs in 67 games.

“He had something on his ankle,” Manager Nestor Corredor said. “We'll figure it out. Unfortunately for him he just came today and had two games. He was having a good game. And now the injury happens. Right now there’s not much I can say.

“He slid late. He told me he touched the catcher. He made contact with the catcher but he did not hear any pop.”

July 24th Update: Whatever the injury (we don't have more specifics), it was serious enough that Lara was placed on Helena's 60-day disabled list.

Brewers announced the release of 25-year-old 2014 10th round RHP Javier Salas.

In 2015, Salas walked 39 in 128.2 IP at Brevard County.

In 2016, Salas walked 51 in 66.2 IP at BC, Biloxi, and Maryvale.

Struggled in brief relief action with Biloxi this season.

Wishing the University of Miami product well.

At Wisconsin, catcher Nathan Rodriguez has been placed on the Temp Inactive List, and 20-year-old catcher Yoel Vasquez has been activated from the Wisconsin disabled list, where he's been since arriving from Helena early this month.

As per Chris Mehring, these two moves have already been reversed. Rodriguez active once again. Young Mr. Vasquez along for bullpen catching work and whatever he can soak up from coaches and atmosphere while virtually having a near-empty season.

7/27 - RHP Scott Grist released from the Milwaukee organization

Grist was certainly a serviceable extreme control pitcher in his first two pro seasons, in Maryvale and Wisconsin, but the now 25-year-old (May 31st) proved too hittable, while still limiting the walks, in his High-A campaign. He provided valuable organizational innings as a 38th round pick, wishing him well in the future.

RHP Tim Dillard activated from the Sky Sox DL in order to make a spot start Thursday, likely foretelling a return to Milwaukee for 40-man roster RHP Paolo Espino, who would be rested and obviously has multi-inning availability out of the pen.

But since Espino's potential recall isn't official as of yet, room had to be made, and RHP Angel Ventura, who recently made a start, was placed on the Helena paper roster.

Now there's a follow-up release stating De Jesus, Jr., will remain on the active roster, as the Brewers reverse course. Instead Tim Dillard goes back to "Helena".

July 29th --

Via the Journal-Sentinel's Todd Rosiak within two tweets:

Bad news for #Brewers IF prospect Gilbert Lara. Fractured right fibula and dislocated right ankle in first game at Helena on July 20.

Lara’s injury occurred on a slide into home plate, and a spike caught in the ground. Surgery next week. Expected to be 100% by next spring.
