2017 Minor League Transaction Thread

Tristen Lutz and Je'Von Ward were activated onto the AZL Brewers' active roster last night. That brings that roster to the league limit of 35.

LG Castillo, Cam Robinson, Justin Bullock, and Karlos Morales will all need to be activated in the near future as well, so there is still a fair bit of roster maneuvering to accomplish.

Any details yet on why Trey York was released?

College sign last year, didn't make it out of Extended Spring training dispite play well last year. That was a warning sign to me that he had fallen behind.

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used

From June 29th --

The Brewers have been very gracious and have clarified the status of each and every "missing" player:

Never signed/signing fell through:

SS Orveo Saint

RHP Victor Castaneda

C Jose D. Romero

RHP Julio Raudez

LHP Trey Robledo

RHP Cole Lipscomb

We mentioned earlier that the Castaneda signing looks official as of this July 7th post.

The Brewers' own transactions page indicates catcher Jose Romero (not to be confused with the DSL RHP of the same name) was signed on July 5th.

One more update, this one on LHP Trey Robledo. Here is a very detailed article out of Fredericksburg, Texas worth your while, particularly if Robledo is indeed a Brewers farmhand.

The article includes --

Robledo was sent to Arizona to join the Brewers’ minor league program almost immediately.

He is currently going through physical therapy after an MRI on his elbow and has been shut down for the 2017 season. This is just another adversity added to the list of many that encourage him.

Robledo is ready to come back next season 100 percent and ready to compete.

This might explain why Robledo isn't on a 2017 list, perhaps he's been signed to a 2018 contract, like the July 2nd international signees, and is working out and caring for his elbow under the Brewers' care.

Via Chris Harris' Biloxi Media Notes for Thursday --

"Shuckers closer Matt Ramsey was promoted to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday after leading the Southern League with 20 saves in 22 opportunities...the first-half All-Star went 3-2 with a 3.34 ERA with the Shuckers...it will be Ramsey’s first experience in Triple-A after pitching at the Double-A level since 2014."

***

Ramsey, 27, was plucked from the Marlins' organization in the Minor League Phase of last winter's Rule 5 draft. Seems fitting since the Marlins currently possess perhaps the most successful such pick in history in 1B Justin Bour.

Congratulations to Matt and to the Brewers on the find!

Trying to figure out the Colorado Springs Roster. Dubon and Brinson are active again. Garcia to AA where Houle goes on the DL. Kohlscheen to "Helena".

If it's true that Blazek was optioned and Phillips recalled, that leaves them with 10 position players (3 catchers) and 15 pitchers.

Via @BrewersPD, confirming earlier reports from this thread, and new news on a release:

"We've signed RHPs Jeanmar Gomez and Alec Kenilvort and released RHP Stephen Kohlscheen.

Sorry to see Kohlscheen go, he was dominant at Biloxi last season, and was enticed to return with a big league camp invite this past spring.

As Adam Rygg (@BrewerNation) noted, "Jeanmar Gomez saved 37 games for the Phillies last year but pitched to a 7.25 ERA this season in 18 G with the Phillies. 22.1 IP, 21 K, 7 HR"

Gomez has a 7.25 ERA but 3.83 xFIP this season. He's gotten unlucky with home runs (something tells me a 41.2 HR/FB% is not sustainable).

He should take over for Torres on the major league roster.

Cody Ponce has been transferred to Helena. Parker Berberet to Carolina.

Backfilling Berberet's spot at Wiscosnin (congratulations, Parker) is RHP Thomas Jankins, activated from the 7-day DL.

This is likely a way to limit Ponce's innings, seems very wise.

Brewers may not activate the 30-year-old officially for a few days --

Patriots INF Tyler Bortnick's Contract Purchased By Milwaukee Brewers

Plenty of details on Bortnick's career thus far at that link.

Here's his Baseball Reference page.

The Brewers have activated Tyler Bortnick on the Colorado Springs roster. To make room, OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis was placed on the Temporary Inactive List.

Odd pickup. He is 30 and his OPS in the independent league was below 700. And he's another utility IF. Meanwhile the AAA team has no obvious 1B or OF for today's game.

Agreed, why not just sign Halton and Gindl out of the Atlantic League?

In order to make room for the optioned Michael Blazek at Colorado Springs, RHP Hiram Burgos has been transferred to Biloxi, where there was an open roster spot.

The Shuckers now have a hefty 14 pitchers on staff, along with just 11 position players.

Not sure if this has been noted yet (maybe it has)... But the Brewers have signed 1B Chris Colabello to a contract and have assigned him to the Sky Sox. It doesn't show in the Brewers transactions page, but he's definitely on the Sky Sox roster.
