Trade coming?

Tom‏ @Haudricourt 3m3 minutes ago

So, all we got on #Brewers rotation is that Zach Davies is No. 2. Counsell said more news later today. Sounds like stuff going on.

With Peralta staying back to pitch Thursday in AZ, he appeared lined up to be No. 3 #Brewers starter. We wait for the other starters.

Rangers were scouting Peralta apparently.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Tom Retweeted C. Trent Rosecrans

And our first big news of the day for #Brewers roster.

This, to me, implies something else is also up.

No question. I'd be shocked if a pitcher isn't traded. The question is, which one.

Currently in camp the Brewers have 7 starters for 5 spots:

1. Guerra

2. Davies

3. Peralta

4. Garza

5. Nelson

6. Anderson

7. Milone

At AAA the Brewers have Hader, Wilkerson, Woodruff, Lopez, etc.

Something has got to give. I'm guessing one starter is traded and the other becomes the long man out of the pen.

I don't like the idea of trading Peralta with 2 years left of arbitration. Pitching is so expensive the brewers shouldn't be trading young controllable assets unless the other team is going to way overspend for him.

I'd be very surprised if Stearns gives away Peralta for some lottery tickets. The Rangers have a good system and are in win now mode. If a trade gets done Stearns will get value back.

Moreover, the Brewers are very familiar with the Rangers system after the Lucroy PTBNL deal last summer.

Has anyone checked to see what Ryan Braun is up to today?
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

That would make for one hell of a week before opening day! I think DS could find some pieces in the Rangers system for a Braun + deal.

I actually think that the Rangers value Peralta more than Guerra, as crazy as that might sound.

Peralta still has upside, whereas Guerra is feared to be a "one-year" wonder due to his minor league track record.

Gallo has lost his shine for sure but that's why I feel the Crew could buy low on him. The Brewers future at both Corner Infielder spots is murky at best.

Also, I have a gut feeling that both Thames and Shaw will disappoint (Think Middlebrooks/Cecchini last spring).

Thames looked terrible this spring. I got to see him play at least 5 times. Bad plate discipline etc.

That said, I think Aguilar is the backup plan if Thames continues to stink.

something is up, i know in past years spot #5 wasn't announced until the very end of spring, and normally because of off days that spot was used for the 1st week or 2, but i never remember spots 3-4 not being announced yet, by now the manager has aligned the rotation up for next week.

Not necessarily a trade, could be Garza is being cut. Not predicting that, just looking at all options, of which this is one.

Would not surprise me one bit.

I attended Sundays game and watched him pitch. He got tattooed as usual.

I sat down the right field line by the bullpen. After his start he came down that way sulking. The bullpen coach lit into him about throwing more off speed pitches. Instead of listening Garza gave it right back to the bullpen coach and the two went up the tunnel to the clubhouse. 5 minutes later the bullpen coach came back and Garza didnt.

That said, just eating the 12mil would look really bad for the organization.

Gennett being waived to open up a roster spot could hint to a trade being more likely than an early dismissal of Garza.

Maybe, maybe not. It happens. The unknown (and you alluded to it a bit) is his attitude. It's one thing to let a vet try to work through it, especially when you're on the hook for 8 figures. But if he's being a jerk on top of it, you almost have no choice. Just can't have a guy like that in the clubhouse around all the young guys.

Another scenario that wouldn't surprise me. For all we know Stearns had been talking to TX for a while and they have an ala carte menu. Guerra will cost x, Peralta y, Nelson z. They may have been scouting the others as well, we just never heard about it. Pretty easy to do in ST. Now TX just needs to decide who they want, what they're willing to give up. Who knows, just spit-balling what that cryptic tweet may mean.
