Any one hear that the Rangers looking at Wily

Here's where I'm at with trading Wily. If the Rangers are after him, it's likely that they think he's coming pretty cheap. If we were to trade him for a reliever, I'd want a young power arm that could be a late inning fixture in our pen for years. Especially with the cost of relievers these days, he isn't bringing back that. He's not bringing a top 100 either, and trading him for another 11-20 organizational prospect isn't worth it.

Yea, no need for more talent equivalent to Erceg, Ponce, Harrison...

Thats our system. In other systems #15-20 can be like Kyle Wren or Michael Reed. Tyler Cravy or Taylor Jungmann.

It's the Rangers system. Their #11 or #15 is not Cravy or Jungmann. But again, I wouldn't trade Peralta just for the sake of trading. I would for say, a Diplan and another lower minors highly regarded starting pitcher. Every trade from here on out should focus on getting starting pitching in return.

Flame out rate is incredibly high, the system needs more.

Yea, no need for a 3 year controllable fairly young already proven MLB caliber starter who was once the top prospect in our system, throws in the upper 90s, and had a 2.92 ERA in the 2nd half of last season either.

All I said was that trading Peralta for someone of that mold isn't worth it. I never said there was no need for another talent like Ponce or Harrison. Erceg doesn't really belong grouped in with the other two being a clear cut above both and a top 10 prospect in the organization on just about any reputable list.

Peralta has a big arm and has pitched very well for stretches at a time. He's also a disaster for certain stretches. He's still young enough that you might think he can transform into a consistent pitcher. His raw talent is pretty good.

It might have been his rookie year, before his 17 win season, where he was terrible at the jump but then put it together down the stretch and was very good. Similarly, his 17 win season included some top notch stretches. Last year was like his rookie year. He had one injury marred season in there too. There are enough really good stretches, usually when it gets hot, that he's still intriguing.

I was going off the best available list out there, ours ; ) But yes, Erceg will be higher when we complete the new list, much higher on my list.

Peralta does have value, I think the devil is in the details. I don't know Rangers system, or any other team's system, well enough to list specific players. That's why I'm not very specific about it, but two really promising arms would be worth trading him now, depending on who they are. Same thing for Nelson, even moreso in his case.

Fair enough. I agree it's all dependent on the return, Wily just seems like a guy to me that isn't going to get enough based on the last two seasons to garner a return that is high enough to justify giving up his upside and control.

Mendez of course I would take, but he's not bringing that back. I don't know much about the deeper parts of their system either, but if we're talking something like 3 project arms of an Adam Lind return, I would say that's not enough.

Maybe I'm still clinging to the time when Peralta was the big up and coming arm in our system, but I still see too much upside in him to sell him low. I still think he could possibly be reborn as a power reliever too, which if it pans out, those kinds of pitchers have a lot more trade value than what he has right now.

The Rangers are trying to compete, so I'd say that if they are after him it's because they think he can help them win now. If they think he can help them win now, then they would give up something of value for him, and his team control is also very meaningful.

I don't expect a top prospect for Peralta, but we should be able to get meaningful talent for him. If we can't, then we just hold onto him. It makes some sense to trade one of our starters now, but if we can't find a good deal, I'd rather dump Garza and eat his salary than give away Peralta for little return.

I'm far less qualified than many on this board about projecting prospects or putting together potential trades, but the Texas system seems to have a pretty good group of pitchers who could be targeted without looking at the top guys in the system.

Brett Martin (Age 21, LHP in High A, Texas' #5 prospect per MLB.com) and Joe Palumbo (Age 22, LHP in A, Texas' #6 prospect) were already mentioned as possible targets. They also have Cole Ragans (age 19 LHP, Drafted #30 overall last year, Rookie Ball, Texas' #9 prospect) and Alex Speas (Age 19 RHP, Texas' 2nd round pick last year, Texas' #10 prospect). They also have Conner Sadzeck (RHP), who is 25 and can hit triple digits with his fastball. He could be part of the 2017 roster and is possibly a future closer, if we were looking for more immediate help.

I think getting one of the first two and one of the last three would be a pretty good return for Peralta. If we could land three of them, I'd be really happy. Ragans and Speas look like guys Stearns would target, but Texas just spent a combined $3M on them in last years' draft, so they probably like them as well :-)

Good news is, these organizations know each other well. Rangers aren't going to bother with some luke warm offer to Stearns, they'll know what he is expecting in return. So I'm sure they're weighing options, Peralta can't be the only pitcher in MLB they're considering.

The other good news is that the Brewers have plenty of guys in their system with value, but likely to make the 40 man roster next year. So, they could get a higher return by adding the like of Reed, Wren, Roache, Coulter, Taylor, etc. Some of these guys have more value than others, of course. If I'm the Rangers I would be very interested in throwing in a guy like Roache or Coulter, for the Brewers to get a SP higher up the food chain. I just have this feeling one of those two are going to come on strong.

I don't see the Rangers or anyone else trading for any of our pitchers right now. Everyone's either coming off a mediocre season (Peralta, Nelson, Anderson, Garza), doesn't have a long enough track record (Guerra), or is named Zach Davies (no chance). Other teams are going to want to see them perform well for at least a couple months this year before they're willing to part with anything Stearns should deem a worthwhile return. Until then I think teams are either just doing their due diligence or are going to try to low-ball us.

That said, I just listed off 6 pitchers for 5 spots. I think the ideal situation right now would be to find a suitor for Anderson as he actually performed close to what I think his value is (4.39 ERA, 1.37 WHIP) and I don't really see him upping his value at this point. Guerra needs to prove last year wasn't a fluke, Peralta and Nelson could over-perform for a couple months, and Garza... if you can get something for Anderson now, I'd still give Garza a couple months to look like his old self in case a team wants a veteran presence and flips us a flyer for him. Otherwise, I'm getting closer to joining the just let'em go now crowd on him.

I'm re-posting "TheJumpAround's" post from the MLB forum.

Tom‏ @Haudricourt 1m1 minute ago

With Peralta staying back to pitch Thursday in AZ, he appeared lined up to be No. 3 #Brewers starter. We wait for the other starters.

Tom‏ @Haudricourt 3m3 minutes ago

So, all we got on #Brewers rotation is that Zach Davies is No. 2. Counsell said more news later today. Sounds like stuff going on.

Looks like something is up. Not sure why Peralta would be staying back.

Not sure why Peralta would be staying back.

To pitch. Guerra(#1) pitched Tuesday, Davies(#2) pitched today, there is no mlb game thursday, and then presumably 4 and 5 will pitch friday and saturday in the exhibition games. So to give hime one more game, assuming he is the #3 he will probably be in a minors game or just a simulated game thursday to stay on schedule.
