What's bugging you? (2017-2018)

I have a Keurig. It's fine. Being the only coffee drinker in the house it is easy and convenient, especially being able to throw a cappuccino or hot cocoa cup in there for the others in the family.

I agree it doesn't taste quite the same but I'm not too particular about my coffee as long as it's black and contains caffeine.

I also agree K-Cups are outrageously priced but I'm very cheap and get all mine from Aldis or Dollar Tree for about a quarter a cup.

It BUGS me when people say "Aldis" instead of Aldi :) - and it seems as though everyone does so.

Ha! My wife and I do that on purpose because it always annoyed us. Kroger grocery stores are based out of Cincinnati and everyone down there calls it Kroger's. So we just started doing it all the time. "I'm running to Krogerzzzz."

I never noticed this until leaving Wisconsin but everyone watches the "Packer" game in Wisconsin, never the "Packers" game.

Moving the needle. Some business buzz words bug me more than others. Just about all of them bug me to some degree. For one reason or another, this one I hate like none other. Moving the needle was actually used in my employer's fiscal year '18 goal statement. Over the past couple of months the phrase seems to pop up in every other bf.net thread I read.

I can't believe moving the needle was knocked out in the first round of the Business Jargon Madness tournament. I figured it was a sure bet for the final four. Also, how did "View From 30,000 Feet" not get in the dance?

My vote goes to "optics."

That said, I'm guilty of using "at the end of the day."

"Do More with Less" isn't on there? C'mon.

That the Brewers are picking sides on moral topics like the new "Pride Day" at Miller Park.

AND

One B would be getting locked out of this topic on brewerfan.net...... I next tried to post in the "religion and politics" section. However, that whole section is fittingly locked, as well. The Brewers can celebrate one's gayness but a Brewer fan site can't merely discuss it. Seems about right...

Rick, I think you can get in there to post. I don't think it's locked. There's a link in the very first post. It's a different Yoku site kind of deal I think. There are other Brewerfan posters over there that I saw in my quick visit.(stemming from this post)

I cook a lot but I'm not very creative so I rely on recipes. I don't like recipes that say "total cooking time: 45 minutes" but don't factor in time it takes to get liquids up to a boil or up to pressure. For example, I made pho tonight in the instant pot. The recipe is titled, "30 minute pho ga" but doesn't take into account that it takes 20 minutes or so for the pressure cooker to get up to pressure, then it takes 20 minutes to cook, then another 5 or so to depressurize. My "30" minute dinner took an hour. I wish recipes would be more reflective of how long it actually takes.

So how was the Pho? I have an issue, I'm addicted to the stuff and was already planning on grabbing some today! I always buy two because I know I'll want it the next day too.

This has happened to me at least 3 times in my life.

I'll call my cable/satellite service because my promo period is up and my bill is too high. I'll tell them, give me my discounts back, or I'm out.

This used to work quite a bit, but the last couple years they seem to dig in their heels more. I tell them ok, go ahead and cancel then.

Almost inevitably, within a month or two they stuff my mailbox with 'please come back' letters with big promo offers and $200 gift card bonuses to boot.

Why didn't you just give me what I asked? Wouldn't that have been way cheaper than what you're offering?

Probably because even though people threaten to leave the vast majority don't. That's why I haven't tried that tactic yet. I won't leave.

But when a customer actually makes the phone call to leave them, isn't that a good time for them to come down a little? I understand that the threats probably rarely followed through, but when someone calls to cancel, they should then save the money and hassle and work with the customer. All I have gotten from them the past couple of years is hardball, refusing to give me my old price, and it really angers me.

Not necessarily. The company is basically just playing a numbers game once the threshold of X amount of people leave then they will push the employees to keep people at all cost. It is a numbers game really I have had the cable and satellite companies reducing my bill a few times other times I will have to leave and then I will get mailers and email's from them about coming back with a lot of free stuff attached to it.

While it would be cost effective to keep the customer the cable and satellite companies really don't care. This is going to get a little sensitive here but I am going to try and not cross the line into politics here. What is happening is there is very little to no competition in this industry. You basically have 2-3 options and sometimes only 1 option to choose for TV services. Since these are monopolies and most of them are state approved monopolies they are not going to compete to keep customers unless they have to.

Basically these companies are only going to compete with each other when they absolutely have to. Which means when their subscribers drop below a certain threshold. Once that threshold is hit they will then start competing for the consumers dollars but not until then. Under a more free market that is more competitive where you have 5-10 different choices the threshold for losing a customer now becomes a lot lower than the monopolies.

So to wrap everything up they don't care if you leave really they don't and losing you means absolutely nothing to them unless they are below their subscriber threshold. More competition is the answer but I don't see that happening any time soon.

So if they really don't care if I leave and losing me means nothing to them, why do they always end up offering me even more to come back than what I was asking for in the first place to stay?

Because they are below their threshold of subscribers. It is dumb and makes no sense but when has a monopoly ever made a rational decision?

I have done the same with charter 3 or 4 times. I pay 90 or so a month on their deal and suddenly it goes up to 150.

So I call and threaten to leave and they call my bluff, so I don't because I'm too lazy. However, I am calling next week to legit cancel because of apps, Netflix, Hulu, etc. It's crazy I can pay 160 a month and they refuse to lower the price when I've been a customer for 12 years.

Let me know what apps you use where you can watch all of the same channels. I am considering it if it isn't too big of a pain.
