What's bugging you? (2017-2018)

CheezWizHed
Weather holds. Sitting in the air terminal all day waiting for fog to lift so I can get to Kipnuk, smelling avgas vapors wafting about, amidst myriad crying babies, sugar buzzed children and a generally laissez faire approach to control is beginning to bug me today.

This is my 3rd annual rant against ESPN and their monopoly on bowl coverage. I counted 4 games on broadcast TV. And they wonder why the CFP ratings have been so low the last 2 years - half the country can’t watch the games to begin with!

If it wasn't for ESPN, half of these bowls wouldn't exist because there would be nobody else to broadcast the games.

That’s fine. I’m just saying put some on ABC instead of Shark Tank re-runs on Friday night or Best of X-Games Aspen on Saturday afternoon.

I get cord cutting and trying to save money, but many times when you try to save money that means you are also sacrificing service, options, quality, convenience etc. So not sure I get, after deciding to cut the cord, complaining about having less viewing options. Hate to use this saying because I never really understood it, but you can't have your cake and eat it too (not sure why if you have a cake you can't eat it...but everyone knows what the phrase means. There has to be a better metaphor, just not sure what it is).

I hear ya - I’m just lamenting that when I was a kid, I could count on a healthy slate of bowl games on network TV during my Christmas break. Now, I’m lucky to catch one or two. I use to get something for free, but now it comes at a cost. That’s my gripe.

Same holds true for the Final Four. The semi-finals flip-flop between TBS and CBS and I think this season the championship game will also be on TBS. I feel like the LCS in baseball is the same way; used to be nationally broadcast on a free network now on cable.

The cost of relying on college students as employees is that I have a severely diminished staff at the library at the holidays, this year starting two weeks from today and lasting for a month. Here's hoping I don't get sick, because I don't know if I can actually take any days off!
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Live sports have gotten quite pricey because of DVR's and streaming. Advertisers like popular sports so much because most who watch, they watch those sports live vs recording them and fast forwarding through the commercials as is the case for so many regular shows.

I'm one of those people. I DVR or stream pretty much every TV show i like and fast forward through all of the commercials, but i watch at least some sporting events live depending on my schedule. ESPN outbid networks for the big bowls.

Try Slingbox, i think you can choose limited packages vs a full more expensive cable package. I prefer having cable, but make a point to call around any time a promotion i'm on ends to get the best deal, and switch services if needed. In fact, i just switched today from U-Verse to Spectrum when U-Verse didn't offer a promotion i liked. Got a better internet/cable package and saved almost 30 a month in the process.

ESPN recently featured a lengthy article about Louisville’s rise from a mid-level commuter school to an athletic power. What’s unfortunate is that the NCAA can take away wins and their national championship, but they can’t take away their conference affiliation. Louisville is in the ACC. They won. The end justified the means. Bring on that big TV money. Conference USA is for chumps. Right? (sarcasm).

Just saw the lyrics to Peal Jam's "Glorified G." Very disappointing. I liked the song much better when I thought the main chorus was "Glorified version of America" (not "Glorified version of a pellet gun").

Super bummed to hear Ryen Russillo will not be on ESPN radio anymore after Friday. Decided not to renew his contract. Not bummed he's leaving ESPN, but I hope he get's back on a daily radio show. My initial hope was he'd go to the new Barstool XM station. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that don't care for him, but I thought he was a breath of fresh air. Honest, sometimes brutally, and I found him hilarious. His show was one of my all time favorites.

I was cleaning last night and found six or seven "Rain checks" for an all fan giveaway from last season. I checked online, as I didn't even know what item they were for. All the new 2018 stuff is up, so it will always be a mystery. HOW DID I FORGET I HAD THOSE?!?!?! Kicking myself.

I'm bummed about that too. I heard that he's moving to LA to try to write TV shows. Seems like he's leaving sports talk radio altogether. SVP & Russillo was my all-time favorite show, and Ryen was great on his own. That was the only show I listened to anymore on ESPN Radio. I'm sure they'll fill that spot with 3 hours of #HOTTAKEZ!!

Don't want this to turn political but I'm tired of the people saying they are so glad they can say "Merry Christmas" again. As if it was ever something you couldn't say to someone. Soooooo dumb.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

If there was ever a war on Christmas, Christmas won, hands down.

When I was a kid, being sick meant 1 day of being really sick followed by being back to almost 100% the next. The whole thing lasting 3 days at most. Now, being sick means at least a week of feeling like crap. There's 2-3 days of "pre-sick" where I feel a little off but just not really sick, followed by 2-3 days of the full sickness, and then another 2-3 days of slowly getting better. I've had some sort of upper respiratory infection for at least a week and I think I finally might be on the downside of it.

Also don't want to get political, but to be fair there were plenty of retail workers not allowed to say "Merry Christmas." But yes, just in every day life nothing was preventing us from saying it.

Out of curiosity, what places of work didn’t allow it? As a teacher, I say have a great break or happy holidays if I know the students. Just because I know everyone doesn’t celebrate it.

I work for a small company that never banned its employees from saying "Merry Christmas". It just assumes that we understand that its just good business practice not to wish "Merry Christmas" to any clients where we are unsure of their religious beliefs. No one has ever wished me "Happy Hanukkah", which makes sense since I'm not Jewish. Its not that I would be offended if someone did, it just would be kind of odd.
