What's bugging you? (2017-2018)

Somebody needs to knock the cubs out of the playoffs. I cannot stomach the thought of another chicago championship. The nationals never manage to do anything in the playoffs. I hate the idea of rooting for the dodgers, but I will do it without hesitation if and when it comes down to that. Fly the L.

For months, I planned on visiting a friend and her family over some of my fall break.

We had mutually agreed that it would be great to see each other and catch up.

Two weeks ago, though, she hemmed and hawed about the trip, but we mutually decided on specific dates and I booked the flight.

Yesterday, she got upset about the news and some other stuff and changed her mind. We talked and talked about it today, and she went back and forth about me coming up or not coming up. By Monday Night Football time (when I had to leave for a previous engagement) we had decided that I would cancel. By the time I got home, it was back on. And it went back-and-forth for another hour.

FINALLY, she decided it just wasn't going to work out at this time. So I cancelled the flight (which leaves in the morning.) The instant I did, I got a guilt trip thrown at me.

I just don't understand.

I had a vision the other night of a CHC-NYY World Series and it was chilling. Not the good kind of chilling.

I had the realization that that specific hell is possible while watching the yankees eliminate the indians tonight. If the cubs beat the nats, the pessimistic side of me will be beating that over my head until one of them gets eliminated...if one of them does *shudder*

Not sure anyone else in here gets annoyed by programmers or coders who refuse to place any kind of notes in their work. OMG a simple fix to a piece of code and it took me all day to fix it because there was no documentation or notes on what they were doing.

So frustrating especially since this person has left the company.

Self documenting code.

Problem is, there's so much code out there that was written before intellisense, before you had that ability, and no one ever told people what "Good code" actually was.

This.

If you feel like your code needs some explanation, documentation isn't the answer. Clean it up.

Along these lines, acronyms and abbreviations in code drive me absolutely crazy. Compare the second it will take to type a few more characters with the time you'll spend explaining your chicken scratch to other developers, and it should be a no-brainer.

Men who pee in a toilet when perfectly functional urinals are in the same (private or semi-private) restroom.

If there is a long line for the urinals, maybe, but if you have to poop the last thing I want is to have to clean your splatter off of the toilet first. Use the damn urinal.

Also, guys who don't follow basic urinal etiquette. If you walk into a restroom with 3 urinals and you're the first to arrive, do not use urinal #2, the one in the middle. Use urinal #1 or #3. I am baffled at those who choose the middle one and thus the next man to arrive is forced to pick a urinal right next to you.

Or even worse, when you're on #1 or #3 and the next guy takes #2 with the other one open. Really?

I could see taking #2 if the other end one is an ADA one. Otherwise I completely agree.

So yesterday I played in a golf 4 man scramble for work. It was 2 people from our company and we got paired with another 2 some. After the 2nd hole they brought out their speaker and started playing country. They asked if it was alright to play music 5 minutes after it started. I couldn't say no...as much as I wanted to... especially since I can't stand country music. Talk about ruining a sport I enjoy playing.

And if it does come down to that, I will do something I have never done before in my entire life.

I will root for the new york yankees.

That makes my stomach feel sick.

If that matchup becomes the 2017 World Series, I just won't watch.

That was the Cardinals/Red Sox matchup of a few years ago for me. Literally didn't watch a play of it. My hatred of the Yankees has waned the last 15 years since they just haven't been that good so if that happened this year I'd probably watch and root for the Cubs to lose. Yanks being kind of the upstart underdog team is odd but that's what they are right now. Generally nothing to hate on their team other than Chapman I suppose.

Ditto on stalls. I often see people walk use the ADA stall when 2-3 others are available.

I certainly would have... "Yeah, I really find the music distracting as we play."

There was a bit of a discussion about this in this same thread a while back. Not only does it frustrate me that this is becoming a normalized thing on golf courses, but it also bothers me how other people just force things they like onto other people. I would feel way too self conscious to think that other people want to listen to my taste in music. Especially in a setting like that. Yes, you could have said something, but then it can get awkward for the rest of the round.

NFL and College Football teams not punting towards the corners anymore. Why did they stop doing that?

The main reason punters used to do that was to try to get a ball down inside the 20. Since the late 1990's, the rugby style/aussie style kick has taken over in the NFL.

This causes the ball to bounce sideways/backwards when it lands, making it much easier to be downed inside the 20. The style of kick also leads itself to better distance control & hangtime.

For several years now. I believe the explanation given for going away from the corner-coffin approach is that corner coffin kicking made it susceptible to having it blocked.

TV Networks have been streaming their shows online for like 10 years now. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like I can't get through a single episode of any show without running in to some type of error where the show just stops playing. ABC and NBC seem to be the biggest offenders.

Not to mention not having a full library of past episodes available.

It makes sense for them to not have all episodes available so they can make money off of DVD sales.
