2016 big leaguer 1B/OF Andy Wilkins had to settle for the independent ranks to begin 2017, but the Minnesota Twins have picked him up his Atlantic League assignment and have placed him at AA Chattanooga in the Southern League.

So both RHP's dealt in the Jonathan Broxton from the Reds trade, Barrett Astin and Kevin Shackelford, debuted with the Reds in 2017, we failed to properly note Shackelford's rough debut vs. the Brewers on 6/29, his lone appearance before a return to AAA, where he is shining, as noted below.

Shackelford named to AAA All-Star Game

Congratulations to Caleb Gindl.

Twice now he's had to go the indy ball route, but San Francisco picks him up as you'll see in the linked Tweet.

I thought Gindl might make a modest big league career as a backup left handed corner OF. He had a nice debut in 2013 - .779 OPS on 155 plate appearances. Not bad (not that good either). But he kind of went in the tank after that.

He just didn't do anything that well. Not enough power. Hit good, but not great. Nothing special on defense.

7/27 - RHP Scott Grist released from the Milwaukee organization

Grist was certainly a serviceable extreme control pitcher in his first two pro seasons, in Maryvale and Wisconsin, but the now 25-year-old (May 31st) proved too hittable, while still limiting the walks, in his High-A campaign. He provided valuable organizational innings as a 38th round pick, wishing him well in the future.

Classy job in this Q&A so soon after his release.

After a disappointing departure from the Brewers organization in 2014, Nicky Delmonico (from KRod trade version 1.0) has made it to the majors with the White Sox.

His .396 AVG and 1.088 OPS in his first 48 ABs isn't too shabby. Wish he wouldn't have pulled a Larry Sanders (for the Bucks fans) and quit on the organization.

interesting article on BR about Delmonico that sheds a lot of light on his mysterious release from the Brewers. Glad to see him turn things around. inspiring story of recovery but also subtly hits at a growing problem with the medical/pharm industry prescribing dangerous, addictive drugs to address symptoms. as someone who struggles with addiction myself, i can sympathize w a lot of the things Nicky touches on- keeping things a secret, struggling with them on your own, letting yourself and others down, perpetuating a cycle of dependence. wish things could have turned out differently from a brewer fan perspective, but from a human perspective, happy to see him have success.

Reliever Tayler Scott, traded to Texas for Jeremy Jeffress at the deadline, was eligible to be a minor league free agent this fall, but has decided to re-sign a minor league deal for 2018 offered by the Rangers, no word if a big league camp invite is involved.

As you'll see at the link above, Scott was immediately bumped from AA (Biloxi) to AAA Round Rock after the trade, and did not exactly shine in 12 outings. The Rangers will overlook that relatively small sample and keep him in the organization.
