Byung Ho Park?

Recommended Posts

i don't get the point to give a 3 year deal to a 1st baseman and then pick up a player to platoon with him. lets see what he can do this season and adjust our roster accordingly if the Thames signing flops. Lets give him as many at bats as possible and see if we have something.

Just for fun, check out this combined Thames/Park KBO line from 2015:

[pre]Year AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB BB AVG OBP SLG OPS

2015 1000 259 361 75 6 100 286 50 181 .361 .466 .750 1.216[/pre]

I'll take 100 HRs at 1B this year ;)

What would be more impressive would be to get 1000 AB's in a season from one position.

Those numbers are more like mid-50's HR's over 162 games. Still not bad.

Forget the Hrs, how about 50SB from the position!? Now the numbers have to be reduced by 60% to reach an equal amount of expected PAs. But that's still 60HRs, 30SBs 216hits while at .466OB.

Maybe you could fill 1000ABs by playing Park at 1st and Thames in OF for Braun's expected off days. Though that'd mean about 100games of off days.

I think the Twin's Byung Ho Park experience should give the Brewers some pause when it comes to big expectations out of Thames as our cleanup hitter.

I'm seeing that the internet is giving Thames some pretty nice projected numbers that I personally feel he may struggle to achieve.

Those Korean League numbers don't always compute to the MLB level.

I hope I'm wrong.

I'd rather just let Thames show what he can do. If he shows that he can't hit LHP in the first couple of months, then we either let Perez or Pina platoon with him, or we bring up Brinson and see if Santana can handle playing 1B a couple times a week.

If Braun were traded today, I'd say sign Carter and let Thames play in the OF. Since we still have Braun, there just isn't room for a 1B that can only play 1B.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
