Rockies?

Do you think the Rockies can sustain their playoff push throughout the year?

Yes. I've been saying since early on that they needed another SP who can help carry the load down the stretch*. If Chad Bettis returns cancer-free and back to full strength in August, he could be that guy. I'd expect the Rockies to target a reliable mid-rotation veteran starter next month in any case.

*Guerra package for BRodgers...

Brendon Rodgers is one of the top 10-20 prospects in all of baseball. Rockies would want an elite starter for Rodgers - if they would even consider such a move.

Agree that Brendan Rodgers would only be in a package for a G.Cole, S. Gray or C. Archer type pitcher.

A more realistic trade if the Rockies were even interested in a pitcher like Guerra, would be:

Rockies receive:

RHP Junior Guerra

Brewers receive:

3B/1B Ryan McMahon (Rockies #5 overall prospect)

Would the Brewers even want to do such a deal?

If the Brewers were in last place in the NL Central, maybe.

However, since we are overachieving this season, I doubt they would be so quick to make such a deal.

With the Brewers failure to draft and develop even back-end SP, a controllable (yet older) type SP like Guerra still holds a ton of value to the Brewers.

I agree that it's questionable that the Brewers would deal a player like Guerra for a less than stellar prospect. The days of desiring quantity over quality are past. Despite his age, we still control Guerra for a long time - and if the club thinks he's a good pitcher - that makes him a key member of our rotation.

Of course, never say never. You get a deal you love - make it. But let's not deal guys just to deal guys.

The Rockies may need another guy down the stretch, but I don't think Guerra is the type of guy.

They're either looking for:

-An ace or very high end starter that may cost them Rodgers.

-Or they're looking for just a guy like maybe buying Matt Garza for $2 million and a bag of baseballs at the trade deadline to eat some innings because they have a lot of young pitchers in the rotation.

Their rotation is good. Before the year my analysis was that they were pretty loaded save for the back end of the rotation, but on further inspection, Gray, Marquez, Senzatela, Freeland, Hoffman are all capable or good MLB pitchers. Tyler Anderson is decent and Chatwood is excellent if they find a way to limit his home starts.

I don't think Anderson is out that long and Gray should be back very soon.

I personally don't even think Chad Bettis should crack the rotation if he returns and they're trying to win other than to just shoulder the load of some innings.

In my opinion, they don't have a need at pitcher unless it is a very legit upgrade. Guerra may an OK upgrade over the back of their rotation, but the team control aspect is a bit lost on them. Every pitcher they have right now has 5ish years of control remaining so Guerra's value of being under team control for 5 years is not all that important to them.
