Mauricio Dubon

What does everyone think of this guy as a future pro? Unlikely? Utility infielder? Every day regular? Star player? Opinions seems all over the place, this is a guy who wasn't ever supposed to get this good this fast, drafted in the 26th round and as soon as a year ago people were still saying utility player at best.

Yet with every promotion he continues to destroy every level at every rung of the ladder he climbs, against older competition. So at 22, what is the future for Dubon?

I think with his combination of defensive versatility, above average speed & low K rates that a floor of utility infielder should be easily attainable. If the uptick in power he showed at AA is sustainable & more than just small sample flukiness I don't think a ceiling of league average regular or better is all that far outside the realm of possibility. Maybe something like an infielder version of Ender Inciarte.

He clearly has an ability to put the bat on the ball, which I am excited about.

I am not a scout and not pretending to be one, but from the very limited video I've seen of him it appears he can be inconsistent in terms of swing footwork. From my NON-PROFESSIONAL point of view he appears to often transfer of all his weight forward as he swings without maintaining much balance. At the very least his lower half swing mechanics appear to fluctuate in this

.

Below is a picture of one of his swing at the point of contact. That back leg lifts off the ground quite a bit and typically when he brings it down he is falling backwards slightly.

Regardless, I am looking forward to seeing how he progresses in the Brewers organization and hopeful he will continue to make contact at a high rate.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I don't play fantasy baseball, but I listen to a bunch of podcasts and in the Razzball Fantasy Baseball Prospect Podcast they speculated that his low power numbers were possibly due to batting lead off for a stacked lineup and focusing on getting on base. His power numbers followed when he was promoted and was in a weaker lineup not batting leadoff. At least that's my recollection.

From poking around and listening to various pre and post trade Red Sox podcasts, the view of him was pretty positive.
