Possible gems in round 2-3

As most of you know first rounders dont always pan out the way they should. Look at the Brewers history there is a quit a few names that have done nothing. The gems in the round 2-3 is probally not the best way to put it because that is a real high pick in baseball and they have high expection but I really didn't to reseach players that will be pick in the 10th or higher rounds.

I will get to the point here who do you guys think are the best players (the gems) that will be here. My favorite player that wil be here will have to be a 3rd baseman Chris Dominguez.

Some say he is growing to big to play 3rd base but I dont believe that. If you still have no problems fielding ground balls being tall and very quick is actually very helpful. You can cover move space and get up higher on line drives. Plus this kid has a cannon.

Alot of people think that he is the best HS 3rd baseman in the nation. I believe he will go mid 2nd or early 3rd hopefully to the brewers nice power also.

Miller is DEFINATELY worth a 2nd round pick. He is a reasonably priced above average catcher. Most 2nd round picks do very little in the majors especially with the Brewer drafts. Josh Murray anyone?

I'll throw out a name that I think may "leak" into the 2-3 rounds...Jeremy Hellickson RHP Hoover, IA.

His size scares some teams but in my opinion he's a 1st round arm....

For what it's worth....

As I noted in my draft profile, Dominguez has had a hard time turning his incredible promise into production on the playing field. He has left a lot of people disapointed with how he hits some of the best pitchers in the nation when playing for various showcase & tournament events. Given his potential, if he did hit well he probably would be considered a legit first-rounder.

With his potential, he certainly fits the Jack Z. profile. There are mixed opinions as to whether or not he'll stay at 3B. One good (or great) thing about him is his arm. A few people have suggested moving him to the mound given his arm strength, but he has resisted the move on a full-time basis wanting to earn his keep as a hitter. I can't blame the guy, but it's a fairly good backup plan should his bat falter at the pro level as some suspect it will.

Hellickson would be a steal in the 3rd round, and I agree that his size could push him down further than it should. His arm is electric, and he has a great slider too. I've heard good things about him from the PG Iowa spring league as well. He's committed to LSU, so if he falls too far...

And I agree that Damian Miller is definitely worth a 2nd round pick. As much as I love early draft picks, getting a proven, all-around catcher sure beats the chances of a 2nd round pick panning out. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to miss not having that pick.

As for the 3rd round, another name that I have tossed around a few times is Charlie Cutler, an athletic, lefty-hitting catcher from Northern California. He was the MVP of the Area Code Games last summer playing for one of the two Brewer-hosted teams, so you know they know all about the guy.

A kid who might fall to the 3rd round and is arguably the best (non-Gordan) hitter in the draft...David Adams.

I would do a cartwheel if I got him in the 3rd round....the kid can swing the pole.

His slightly bel ave speed, ave arm and lack of a solid position may cause him to slide...but he's probably the most "polished" baseball player in the prep ranks. He's not a toolsy guy he's just a damn good baseball player.

Perfect Game has had some pre-draft profiles up on their homepage, covering David Adams today:

PG: David Adams

I remember reading some comparisons to the Mets David Wright, and given what I've heard about him, along with your comments Blazer, that comparison may not be far off. Wright was another guy that wasn't heavy on the tools side coming out of high school, but he could play, and in particular, he could hit. I doubt he falls to the 3rd, as like Wright I think there's a good chance he goes in the sandwich round, but that would be pretty cool if he did.

To me, height wouldn't scare me.

If a pitcher is 5'11" and can throw 92-94 with good movement and can spot it as well as having some good breaking pitches, he's a great prospect. Height shouldn't scare away teams.

A couple of thoughts from down South......NC State closer Joey devine would be a great pick up for someone in the 2nd. The other North Carolina HS player getting attention beside Maybin is LHP Drew Taylor(6'2, 185). I know the Brewer's had Cross Checkers in 2-3 times when he was 88-91 over the last 3 weeks. Plus Change in the 78-81 range. The wild card on him is who is pitching coach is every winter from November-Early February......that would be former Brewer LHP Mike Caldwell. Taylor has worked with him for the last 5 yrs. Rumor is 3rd/4th round down here.
