The Red Sox and Brewers have agreed to a trade that will send some form of bullpen help to Boston, reports Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald (on Twitter). The names of the players involved are not yet known, though Baseball America’s Josh Norris tweets that the involved players are currently being notified.

Wonder who? Torres?

8:15am: Hard-throwing minor league righty Josh Pennington is one of the names going to Milwaukee in the trade, Norris reports. Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports (on Twitter) that Travis Shaw is “likely” headed to Milwaukee in the deal.

Pennington.....

Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Curveball: 55 | Changeup: 40 | Control: 45 | Overall: 45

Pennington was on course to become one of the first high school pitchers drafted from the Northeast in 2014 before he blew out his elbow that April. Though he needed Tommy John surgery, the Red Sox drafted him in the 29th round and signed him away from his St. John's commitment for $90,000. They've kept him on tight pitch and innings counts since he returned to the mound in 2015, and he has impressed in short stints.

Pennington worked in the low 90s in high school but now operates at 94-98 mph, giving him one of the best fastballs in Boston's system. His movement and command with his heater don't stand out as much as its velocity, however. He shows aptitude for spinning an upper-70s curveball with good depth that could develop into a plus second pitch.

Whether Pennington winds up as a starter or reliever remains to be seen. His changeup and control are still works in progress, and his lack of size and a less-than-clean delivery could point him to the bullpen. He'll remain in the rotation for now to give him some much-needed innings, but he could make for a high-leverage power reliever in the long run.

Dubon.....

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 35 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 45

Dubon is trying to become the first native Honduran and second Honduran-born player (after Gerald Young) to reach the big leagues. After a Christian baseball mission group visited his nation when he was 15, Dubon returned to the United States with them so he could improve his baseball skills while attending high school. Signed for $75,000 as a 26th-round pick in 2013, he has emerged as the system's best shortstop prospect because he's a better hitter than Deven Marrero and a better defender than C.J. Chatham.

Dubon has tremendous hand-eye coordination and a quick right-handed bat, allowing him to barrel balls with ease. He has shown more patience in 2016, drawing more walks and getting himself out on weak contact less frequently. He'll never be a home run hitter, but adding some strength and balance at the plate would help him produce line drives more consistently.

Though he played mostly second base when teamed with since-traded Javier Guerra in low Class A, Dubon is a legitimate shortstop and has played there almost exclusively following his mid-2015 promotion to high Class A. His quick hands and feet and his arm allow him to make plays from either side of the bag.

Shaw is kind of interesting. His OBP was too low last year (.306) but he hit 16 home runs and gives a team some defensive versatility. In 2015 he posted an .822 OPS in 226 MLB at-bats. In a proposed Braun trade I had Shaw coming back to the Brewers because I thought Stearns might see him as a solid #6 hitter for Milwaukee...and if not he still would give the team options at 1B, 3B and LF (this was before the Thames signing).

There's your 3B, Travis Shaw. 29 HR in first 778 major league PA. Hits lefty, a plus. Wasn't much of a hitter in the high minors though so can't be sure this just isn't more infatuation with Boston players. Pennington a nice lottery pick. Dubon makes this deal for me. Great offensive numbers in the minors and just 22.

Where this leaves Gennett and Perez who knows?

I still see the Brewers picking up a reliever to replace Thornburg. Maybe David Robertson from the Sox for Garza in a salary swap? Maybe they follow through and put Peralta in the pen.
