RHP Anthony Vavaro

Hey colby, what are your thoughts on him? I didn't see him listed in the coverage, and he's another guy I read about on Sickels' blog. Here's what Sickels had to say:

A sleeper pitching prospect to watch in the 2005 draft: Anthony Vavaro.

The St. John's righthander has a 2.45 ERA with a 93/19 K/BB in 62 innings so far this spring. Read that K/IP again: 93 strikeouts in 62 innings. He reportedly throws a 94 MPH fastball. You might think he's a top prospect, but the junior right-hander doesn't appear too high on most draft prospect lists. He's short, you see, listed at 6-0 but that may be an exaggeration. His lack of height hurts his draft status.

The best pitcher on the St. John's team is closer Craig Hansen, himself owner of a 53/8 K/BB ratio in 37 innings (with a 1.21 ERA). Hansen is a projected first-round pick, and a more traditional pitching prospect than Vavaro, standing at 6-5, 195. But if you believe in K/IP, Vavaro is someone to watch. He could be a steal for some team.
