Plouffe could be an interesting add but also could be a very "meh" possibility better left for someone else. Had some trouble staying both a) on the field and b) productive.

Stearns seems to be taking more risks on guys coming off of injury. Guess he sees a market inefficiency there.

I like this idea. Have Plouffe play 3B not a bad pickup if he somehow finds out how to hit again.

[sarcasm]Aren't Plouffe and Braun friends since high school? So the Brewers would have that going for them......[/sarcasm]

That's what I meant in the first part of that post. Could possibly be this year's version of Aaron Hill.

If he somehow managed to get to our team to claim, Id do it. Id be disappointed if we didnt do it. He may come with a 10-11million pricetag this year but, hes better than Aaron Hill, and we were able to trade him. Plouffe could tally 30hrs 30 doubles with .250/.340 ba/ob. Has played 1b, so you have a backup to Carter. Or even gives the ability for Stearns to trade if a team is calling him. Hes got a solid floor at a position the Brewers are lacking at.

While it's possible Plouffe posts those numbers it's unrealistic he does so. He can definitely hit 250+. Over the last 5yrs his OBP has exceed 309 - once (323). He could hit 30 doubles but would need 500 AB. He's never hit more than 24HR and that was 5yrs ago. He'll need 500 AB just to hit 20.

With Arcia/Villar up the middle they're not sitting unless they're injured. Perez will work his way in and, if Braun's traded to LA and Puig comes back, he won't be seeing much OF either unless an injury. 3b is where Perez will probably see most of his time. Plus, if they're planning on Walker being on the team providing power off bench he might be the one backing up Carter (he played 1b in college). I wouldn't be disappointed at all if we landed Plouffe I just don't think Stearns will target him. My gut is he tries to acquire a young, blocked 3b who can play for 2-3yrs before trading him instead of playing the Aaron Hill game annually

Aaron Hill's had 5 season with better OPS than Plouffe's best year. His .780 OPS with the Brewers last year was better than any of Plouffe's seasons too. Plouffe is a not a 30 HR threat. He slugged over .450 once and that was several years ago. I like what Perez gives for major league minimum.

He grew up next to Ryan Braun.

I don't know if it is still the case, but for many years they were offseason workout partners. There was a time when I thought acquiring Plouffe could make sense for the Brewers, but I think the third base reps could be better used elsewhere at this point.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
