RHP Alec Asher has been claimed off waivers from Los Angeles and optioned to Triple-A @skysox. With his addition, the 40-man roster is at capacity.

Apparently there is just something about these former Orioles pitchers. Miley, Drake, Gallardo, Davies, also Albers and Liz (granted both a long time ago). Not exactly the bastion of pitching talent, though.

alec asher has yet to burn his 2018 option, but will do so in a matter of days. if he does, he will enter 2019 with no options remaining. he has not been outrighted to the minor leagues yet in his career.

Asher made it two days. Brewers trade for Tyler Saladino from the White Sox and place him at AAA.

Looks to have a killer mustache.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Saladino is a poor man's Hernan Perez. Here's hoping he never sees the 25.

I was thinking more a poor man's Andres Blanco. At least Blanco hasn't been total crap with the bat. Either way both are terrible and will hopefully never see Milwaukee. Stearn's love for versatility to no offensive talent is getting a little annoying.

oliver drake designated for assignment. the brewers have seven days to trade, release or outright drake to the minor leagues. drake has been outrighted before, so if he clears waivers, he can refuse the minor league assignment, void his contract and become a free agent.

wade miley has his contract selected. the 40-man roster remains at capacity.

eric sogard optioned. he had enough service time to refuse the minor league assignment, but doing so would've voided his contract. if sogard spends more than 20 days optioned to colorado springs, he will burn his final option.

nick franklin has his contract selected. franklin is out of options, and has been outrighted before. if the brewers wish to send him back to the minor leagues, he will have to clear waivers and choose to accept the minor league assignment. franklin has the right to refuse the minor league assignment.

to make room on the 40-man roster for franklin, stephen vogt was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

jacob barnes optioned. if he stays down more than 20 days, he will burn his second option.

alec asher has his contract selected. he has burned his final option already in 2018, but can be optioned and recalled througout the remainder of the 2018 season. if the brewers attempt to outright him again to the minor leagues, he has the right to refuse the assignment and become a free agent.

wade miley is transferred to the 60-day disabled list to open up a spot for asher.

the 40-man remains at capacity.

Good thing for depth. I just realized that 10 out of 43 players are on one of the DLs.
eight on the major league disabled list, and mauricio dubon and jacob nottingham on the 7-day minor league disabled list. not super ideal for depth at the moment.

Yea, but Franklin, Asher, Bandy, Sogard can easily be taken off if it comes to that.

But will they? Aren't those guys the depth Stearns always talks about?

I know it is only 12 at bats ... but Saladino makes Franklin a DFA no brainer when the time comes and Sogard will no longer see the MLB roster. Saladino is a better defender at the same positions and his WAR in 12 at bats is already almost equal to Arcia's. Fully expecting his bat to re-center to the norm ... but he is a better option as a 25th man and on the 40 man than both those two.

We have some flexibility if we need it.

How far along is Franklin at the catcher position? Any thoughts if he is anywhere near close to average defensively? That would really make the team think a couple of times before cutting ties with him.

Unless you have a super deep 40 man roster, which we don't, I've always kind of shrugged off the idea of 40 man depth once you start getting past the first 35 or so.

At a minimum, you could replace Bandy, Franklin, Saladino, Sogard and Asher with Bethancourt, Orf, Derby, and 2 other "who cares" guys and they would be no worse for it. Saladino was claimed off waivers. Sogard would have had to clear waivers already to be sent down. Asher had already had a couple stints on the 40 and been removed once already and cleared.

These last few guys are just totally fluid and replaceable. If Stearns wanted to replace Asher tomorrow, he could stop for breakfast, send out a few texts offering some cash or a nobody PTBNL for a guy on another team that they considered totally expendable, and have it done by the time he finished his meal.

jett bandy has been designated for assignment. the brewers have seven days to trade, release or try to outright bandy to the minor leagues. if bandy goes unclaimed, he will be forced to accept the minor league assignment.

the roster is officially at 39, as newly acquired erik kratz is not on a major league contract for 2018.

i've yet to see a formal announcement selecting erik kratz's contract from the minor leagues, but the brewers would have had to done so to add him to the 25-man roster for tonight's game.

kratz has been outrighted to the minor leagues many times before and would have the right to refuse a minor league assignment were he to clear waivers.

the 40-man is at capacity.

I'm confused by this post. Is Kratz in uniform tonight in Milwaukee?
