2016-2017 Green Bay Packers Thread

pacopete4
Thankfully the game this weekend is in Green Bay and not Seattle. That seems to be a place where teams go to die.

I see and hear a lot of people talking about "So, if the Packers run the table..." Like it's almost a given or something. This team is very average, and none of these games are automatic wins. Not the Vikes at home, not even the Bears on the road. And certainly not Seattle next week. Most of all, like it or not, the Lions are for real. They are not a great team or anything, but they are good enough to beat the Packers-especially at home.

Ironic, because for the last 20 years or so you could almost book the Packers would take care of business and run the table. I'm just not confident at all they can do it this time.

The losses to IND and TEN are killing them right now. Even if they had split them they would be in pretty good shape for at least a wildcard.

I don't think they can run the table at all. They have to win at least 3 of 4 with one of them being in Detroit the last game of the season. Detroit has turned out to be a lot better than expected. I think this year will come down to the end the same was as last year; but now the Packers won't have a backdoor way into the playoffs. It is division or nothing. 9-7 won't make the playoffs.

A few things, with the first not relating to what you said but what someone else said.

#1 Why wouldn't people talk about running the tables and winning the last 4 games? Isn't it normal to talk about how your team can make the playoffs?

#2 If the Packers were to lose one of their final 4 games to go 3-1 one of the wins does not have to be against the Lions. The Packers would hold the tiebreaker over the Lions so they would depend on the Lions going 1-3 regardless. Obviously it is better if you can at least control the outcome to one of those games. The worst loss for the Packers(if going 3-1) would actually be against the Vikings since they would lose any tiebreaker to the Vikings if both teams finished out the season 3-1.

#3 The division is definitely not the only way into the playoffs for the Packers. Actually, in my opinion, it might just be more likely they get in via the WildCard. As I mentioned before there are paths to overtake both current WC teams. One being the Packers going 4-0, Giants going 2-2 or worse, and the Redskins losing at least one more. That in my opinion is much more likely than overtaking the Lions.

Tomorrow is the most important of the remaining games. The Bears and Vikings are beatable. The Lions and Seahawks are the toughest left. With the Lions facing us, at the Cowboys, and at the Giants, they could very well go 1-3. Packers need to get to 10-6. I put money on them last week in Vegas to win the Super Bowl at 40:1.

Curious to see what effect the weather has on the game tomorrow. It will probably lead to a bunch of broken plays which generally favors Rodgers.

Or slippery field leading his hammy to tear for good. Season over.

Go Packers, Bears (Lions), Cowboys (Giants), Panthers (Skins), & Saints (Bucs). Oh and I guess the Jags (Vikes) too!

I like the Giants and Cowboys hosting the Lions with Stafford's most important throwing finger heavily damaged. Given a weak rushing game and Stafford's lack of speed, I'd sit back and make him throw accurately. I think Packers win the division at 10-6, Lions come in at 9-7

Packers got every break possible in that game. Am I happy they kicked the crap out of Seattle? Of course. But I will be real about the outcome. The offense is playing some great football as of late and if they continue, they have a good chance to beat anyone. Fun stuff!

I'll say this, whether the Packers or Lions win the division they sure will earn it! Packers most likely would have to win their last 6 games. Lions, to finish up, have to make it through the gauntlet of Dallas, Giants, Packers.

I like that. Nothing cheap here, the best team WILL win the division. And with everyone else winning, it does look the division title is the best way to the playoffs for the Packers again.

In my bold prediction three weeks ago I said the winner of the NFC North will win at least one playoff game. Sticking to it. I hope we don't overlook a pesky Bears team this upcoming weekend.

I give Detroit about a 15% chance of winning at both NYG and Dallas. Maybe that is even high with Stafford's thumb. Odds still are that the Packers will need to be Detroit the last week to make it

Tampa Bay/Atlanta and Washington would be the main competition for the 2nd WC; NYG likely has 1st WC wrapped up. Obviously the Packers would probably be 9-7 if they are worrying about a WC.

Tampa is 8-5 and has games against DAL, NO, and CAR. Lose 2 of 3 which is certainly possible they are at 9-7, not sure on the tiebreaker with TB.

Atlanta is 8-5 and would need to lose all 3 games for the Packers to make it at 9-7 since ATL has the head to head. SF, CAR, and NO so very unlikely. Packers need to hope ATL wins the division

WASH is 7-5-1 and has games against Carolina, Chicago, and NYG. They would need to lose 2 of those games so this week against Carolina is huge.

It's wonderful to be in Seattle when the Seahawks lose, although the MLS cup win is softening the blow a bit.

Fivethirtyeight gives the Packers a 30% chance at the playoffs, 21% at the division. So beating the Lions is definitely the most likely path. I'm happy with 1/3 playoff odds given the situation a few weeks ago.

I remember looking it up last week and I think the Bucs would win a tie breaker. It would be way easier to catch the Giants as we hold the tiebreaker over them. Their schedule is no cake walk. They still play the Lions and Redskins which are games they could lose. They actually lost to the Redskins and barely beat the Eagles so it isn't that easy for them. Of course one probably just hopes they win next week to open up the division for the Packers instead of the wild card mess. After nothing went right outside of their game yesterday a wildcard is pretty unlikely.

I'm glad Aaron Rodgers is the QB.

Not pretty the entire game but they took care of business. Dallas beating TB was also nice and I will be cheering for Carolina tonight. Obviously they have a clear path to the division now but it sure would be nice to have a backdoor into the playoffs as a wild card.

I have almost no confidence that if the D needs a stop in the playoffs that they can get it. The pass rush was non existent yesterday and the corners are playing timid. It was to easy for Matt frickin Barkley yesterday when he wasn't making horrible throws in the middle of the field. I don't think the Packers D can stop Atlanta, Dallas, or NYG if they need to late in a game. Offense is going to have to score a ton of points.
