2016-2017 Green Bay Packers Thread

Capers has patched holes all year long with this team and they have play respectable defense the last half of the season. He has no players really worth a darn on the outside

I dunno. With the expected game temperatures and Lambeau Field. I think will help lead to poor game Eli Manning vs. Great game Eli Manning.

Btw, I recall the pregame of Det. Mentioning 0 Titles since 1993. Which I recall was a division clincher over GB, only to begin Favre's Legacy with the Sterling Sharpe TD heave across the football field some 70yards to beat the Lions. Talk about dominating a franchise for 25+years.

IIRC, Detroit beat Green Bay in the regular season finale (the day after the Badgers won the Rose Bowl) to set up that playoff game. The two teams were locked in to play each other, the only question was the location and the finale was to determine the division winner and playoff host.

Manning beat the Packers twice in cold weather at Lambeau to knock the Packers out of the playoffs. And that was against Packer defenses much better than this. Anything is possible, but I wouldn't count on Manning having a bad game because it's cold, and/or at Lambeau.

Eli is an interesting QB as he is generally above average but prone to tanking for no reason (a couple of weeks ago against the Eagles for example). You know the Packers offense is going to give you 21-28 points so if the defense just doubles and triples Beckham and makes them to attempt to run the ball or throw it to someone else they have a great chance.

Actually, I don't know the Packers will score 21-28. It will be cold, we don't know about the wind yet. If it's windy, no way is 21-28 a given. Also, pretty sure the Giants know Beckham will get a lot of attention, and they have been game planning that and winning most of the year.

I don't think playing at Lambeau actually helps them. Biggest strength by far for this team is AR throwing the ball all over the yard. Bad weather equalizes that to some extent. Special Teams will be huge.

Packers have already played several very cold weather games this year and Rodgers had pretty darn good games. So long as their is no wind; the fact that it will be 10-20 degrees won't matter much at all for either team.

I am more nervous about this game then say having to go to Dallas next week. NYG have been the playoff nemesis and until they beat them I will be pessimistic. Somehow someway they need to get the Giants to just run the ball. They may score their points but make them work for it. Limit the long pass plays as much as possible. Despite OBJ the Giants offense is pretty mediocre but the state of the GB secondary is in shambles. It will take a minor miracle to keep them under 20 if the conditions are fine.

I'll take a windy day. That would be Eli's kryptonite. Weak armed QB's don't do well in win. Rodgers will have no problem.

Wade Phillips is almost certainly gone as DC once Denver gets a new head coach. You can't give 100% of the defensive blame to Capers when he's putting a MASH unit on the field but even when healthy his defenses have been very average the last few years. It seems like Phillips will either stay with Denver or retire but maybe he could put a top 10 defense on the field to support Rodgers for a year or two.

the rumors that the packers could get john dorsey to replace thompson would be awesome. if that doesn't work out, i'd look into to see if John Schneider would come to green bay, i believe Seattle cannot forbid him from interviewing since he is under Pete Carrol technically. I'm all for Elliot Wolf, but if the packers can get a proven commodity they should go that route and let Wolf go to San Francisco.

Wow is McCarthy an idiot. 3 and 1 and gets stopped on a predictable play call. Then goes for it on his own 40 and calls an even more predictable play that gets stuffed in the backfield. 7 point mistake how stupid can a coach be.

Right call to go for it but if you're going to do that run something clever on 3rd down at least.

It was moot anyway because Aaron Rodgers is good.

Debatable, but what isn't debatable is the play call(s) The right play call would have been like what they did later in the game on 3 and 1 where they faked the handoff and Rodgers rolled out.

I loved how aggressive McCarthy was today. Loved it! Keep coaching that way. Poor play call on the 4th down but I loved attempting it.

Agreed. I think the bootleg so perfect there because Rodgers is mobile enough to run for it if need be.

McCarthy has gotten much better at using timeouts late in a half. Today was textbook as he gave his team a chance. It's weird to say, but NFL coaches needed to start managing like they were playing video game football. McCarthy has been doing that. I love him going for it on 4th and 4". We need to let the game be in the hands of our offense, and we need to be able to gain 4 yards. I would have run a rollout OR run the inverted wishbone, preferably with Michael given his success that drive. I also would have used Tretty over Spriggs, and would have had the emphasis on guys that can block rather than on tight ends on the field.

Play of the game was Cooks' drop late in the 1st half. If it's a catch, the game is over.

It was 4th and 1, not 4th and 4. Cook didn't drop a pass, but the Packers scored last two possessions of the half, so if anyone did have a drop, no effect on the game. Are you talking about ghetto Giants game?

Loved the spark that Michael gave the offense to begin the 2nd Half. Was very surprised that he wasn't in the backfield for the 4th down play. Seems like a better choice than Montgomery, if it's going to be a run.

I liked McCarthy being aggressive, but I don't think that was the time and place for it. Midfield, sure. Around your own 40 and the way the game was playing out, that's a bit more doubtful.

The way that the offense got in a hot zone during the last 35 minutes of the game is a good sign. But I don't think that the Packers can afford a quarter plus like the 1st/2nd Quarters today down in Dallas. They could be looking at a two TD deficit instead of two FGs if that happens.

Let the magic carpet ride continue!

I believe this (") is used for inches. 4th and 4 inches.

Oh and Cook's drop sure as hell changed the game. Seven points went on the board because he missed one. Otherwise time runs out and the hailmary never happens.

Did you watch the game even?

80% of the time McCarthy uses his timeouts before the half and the other team goes down the field to score a touchdown. That may be the first time this year I recall him doing it and the defense actually getting the stop...let alone us putting up points at the end.
