Most Humiliating Way Cubs Could Lose World Series

This topic came up with some friends the other day. What is the worst possible way the Cubs could lose the World Series? Kinda tough this year since Cleveland has home field so game seven would be there but...

- David Ross pass ball to plate winning run

- Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo collide trying to catch pop up bottom of the 9th in game 7 and both tear their ACLs

- Chapman walks five straight to lose game

- Bartman returns and does something weird

I would like to see Joe Maddon do a bunch of multi-position switches and have them result in a depleted bench so that Jason Heyward has to bat for himself against Andrew Miller with the series on the line.

Then a strikeout or comebacker to the pitcher to end it.

Or he pulls Lackey in a high leverage situation (say two on in the fifth) and it blows up in his face. Then Lackey goes on a tirade in the post game interview and a fight ensues live on TV between Lackey, Maddon, and a player to be named later.

I mean the obvious answer is a 0-0 game with one of the Cubs pitchers having a perfect game and then giving up a home run on an 0-2 count with 2 outs in the 9th.

I'll one up that. Same situation except the pitcher throws a swing and a miss strike three, but the catcher whiffs on on the catch and a Bad News Bears series of bad throws allows the runner to go all the way around the bases for the game winning run.

I actually think this may happen...

Indians lead the league in stolen bases this year. Instead of doing what postseason opponents have done so far with lester when they get on base, they actually steal bases instead of daring him to throw over to 1st and second.

I think the Indians run wild in the cubs, and make it embarrasing that every time a runner gets on it turns into a triple a few pitches later.

Would it be worse if he had a perfect game going and a 1 - 0 lead then walked a guy with two outs and gave up a homer to lose?

I'll take a loss any way I can get it.

Yeah a Cubs loss is all that matters.

No. I want it to hurt in the worst way possible.

I'm with you, but my primary focus is on avoiding the horrible nightmare. Being able to laugh like a loon at how it unravels would just be sauerkraut on top.

Yeah...I also do not understand why teams don't just run wild on Lester. The other day they were showing Seager with a 18-19 foot lead on Lester, but he never went. Go! What are you waiting for?

They are up 3 games to 1. In game 5 at Wrigley they have the bases loaded in a tie game with one out in the ninth, there is a 6-4-3 ground ball that the Cubs player beats at first and the Cubs win the World Series... until replay says otherwise. The Cubs end up losing game 5 and the next two games in Cleveland. They have a taste of being a champion but have it taken away.

This is truely diabolical.

Remember what Yoda said:

Game 7...bases loaded...down by 3...Cubs up...3-2 count...Baez hits it deep down the line for what is thought to be a grand slam inside the poll. However after replay it is shown to be just foul and Baez strikes out the next pitch.

A thought to be a World Series winning play reversed in Game 5 would be horrid too. Oh replay the potential you give us.
