2016 Post-Season Community Top 25 Prospect Poll - Voting has closed.

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

We would like to invite everyone to participate in the 2016 Post-Season BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects voting.

Please take time and submit on this thread your top 25 Brewer prospects. Feel free to list any resources or news that you feel might help people with their voting.

Voting will conclude on October 21. You can change your votes at anytime through the 21st, so I recommend getting your picks in early. You can always go back and tweak your list.

RULES

1. Submit your Top 25 prospects, in order, by end of day on Friday, October 21. Put the player's full name to avoid any confusion (such as which Diaz you are selecting).

2. You MUST submit 25 prospects. If there are only 10 or 15 or whatever, your list will not be included.

3. You are encouraged to go beyond pick #25 - adding a few more is totally fine. That way if someone in your top 25 is traded or released, or if you mistakenly miss a number, or have a guy twice, or whatever, I can just bump up your next player(s) into the Top 25.

4. Rankings are determined by total points. The top prospect gets 25 points, second prospect gets 24 points, etc.

4. As noted above, if you submit your list and want to change something, just add the change to the thread. I'll accept changes up to the deadline.

5. Within a week after the deadline, we'll publish the new BF.net Community Top 25.

Eligibility questions:

Rookie eligibility is determined by 50 IP or 130+ ABs at the major league level.

- Ineligible players: Orlando Arcia, Jhan Marinez, Keon Broxton, Josmil Pinto, Andrew Susac, Tyler Cravy

- Eligible players with ML experience: Wei-Chung Wang, David Goforth, Rymer Liriano, Garin Cecchini, Jorge Lopez, Michael Reed, Yadiel Rivera, Yhonathan Barrios, Adrian Houser, 1B Andy Wilkens, P Jacob Barnes, Manny Pina, Brent Suter, Damien Magnifico, Ben Rowen

Player notes:

- Adrian Houser had Tommy John surgery and will likely be out at least a year, so he may miss all or most of 2017.

- OF Rymer Liriano missed all of 2016 following being hit by a pitch in pre-season. I have not heard any information on his return.

- We have three Diazs in this organization. If voting for Isan, Brandon or Miguel Diaz, please be clear who you are voting for.

- We also have multiple Williams - Devin and Taylor.

- There are also two Ortegas - SS Angel Ortega and pitcher Jorge Ortega.

- Please comment if you know other conflicts.

New players to consider:

- OF Ryan Cordell (acquired from Texas)

Wow, even going to 35 I had to leave out T. Williams, McLanahan, Supak, Webb, Suter, Wren, Reed, M. Feliciano, G. Garcia, Gideon, Burkhalter, QTC (Torres-Costa), A. Meyers, M. McDowell, Neuhaus, all guys who either have made or I think have a chance to make the majors. The system is deep.

1. LHP Brent Suter - His floor is as a very solid late-inning reliever. Question is, what is the ceiling, closer, or somewhere in the rotation?

2. 3B Lucas Erceg - Just dominated and will climb fast.

3. 2B Isan Diaz - Will he be what Rickie Weeks could have been?

4. 1B Ronnie Gideon - Awesome power bat at first base.

5. LHP Josh Hader - Can he overcome Colorado Springs?

6. CF Lewis Brinson - Five tools, top talent

7. RHP Jon Perrin - Went from Wisconsin to Biloxi. Moving up fast.

8. RHP Luis Ortiz - Two plus pitches mean great promise.

9. LHP Wei-Chung Wang - Former Rule V pick could be a steal.

10. IF/OF Ryan Cordell - Can play all four IF positions and all three OF positions

11. 1B/OF Garrett Cooper - Shades of Lyle Overbay, but more versatility.

12. RHP Brandon Woodruff - Dominated at AA and A+

13. RHP Phil Bickford - A right-handed Josh Hader

14. RHP Marcos Diplan – Have to love a 3.09 ERA, and almost 10.25 K per 9 innings.

15. RHP Freddy Peralta – 3.65 ERA, 10.65 K/9.

16. OF Troy Stokes - Quietly showing OBP skills, speed, and gap power.

17. OF Trent Clark - Awesome OBP skills, but can he boost his average?

18. OF Corey Ray - High pick, but starting at Brevard County was a mistake.

19. C Mitch Ghelfi - Switch hitter did solid in Wisconsin and Brevard County

20. C Jacob Nottingham - For a 21-year old at Biloxi, not bad.

21. OF/C Clint Coulter - Amazing what getting out of Brevard County does for a hitter.

22. OF Brett Phillips - Flashed power at Biloxi. Looks solid.

23. 3B/SS/1B Jacob Gatewood - Lots of power, but can he improve his contact and OBP skills?

24. UT Wes Wilson - Shows hitting and versatility (Spent time at seven positions). The new Hernan Perez?

25. RHP Jorge Ortega - Fell off from dominating 2015. Could bounce back, but leash must be short.

26. SS Gilbert Lara - Not seeing production

27. OF Demi Orimoloye – OBP skills improved, but other numbers are down.

28. RHP Cody Ponce – Peripherals look good, but only four innings a start is not good.

29. C Mario Feliciano – Hitting for average, but would like more OBP skills

30. RHP Devin Williams – A step behind Diplan and Peralta.

31. OF Monte Harrison – He just looks overmatched, based on the stats.

32. OF Joantgel Santovia - High-average hitter, no pop

33. C Nathan Rodriguez - Worth a look

34. 1B Moises Perez - Flashing a 3TO bat in the DSL

35. CF Jesus Lujano - OBP skills, some speed. Intriguing DSL project.

22 Rymer Liriano (the forgotten talent in the system. lots of upside. recent injuries have cost him 2 years of experience- still only 25, in terms of developmental timeline, is probably closer to that of a 23 year old- i predict he's this year's Keon Broxton)

Comments:

- I know I'm likely to again be the highest on Brown (and perhaps again the only one to list him in the top 25), but the combination of the compliments about his stuff during the draft writeups and the fact that I believe only Perrin had a better WHIP or K/BB ratio at Wisconsin this year has me intrigued.

- This always makes me realize how little I know about how the non-top prospect pitchers project. Perrin's a good example.

- If I'd have gone out to 50 I'd have tried to fit Desguin in. For a guy who doesn't have as much pitching experience, his Wisconsin stats are pretty impressive.

1. Brinson- May never walk a ton, but if he hits .382, Im ok with that.

2. Hader- Can we loan him to an International League franchise for a couple of months to start 2017?

3. Woodruff- 3 plus pitches, runs it up to 99 with above average command. Outside of a high draft selection or long track record, hard to find a wart.

4. I. Diaz- .973 OPS in the second half? That'll do.

5. L. Ortiz- Anytime a pitcher has a significant change in there statistical profile I get alittle worried so his 10% K rate drop at AA is a concern.

6. Ray- An .819 OPS with 5 dingers in August. I didn't even realize that happened.

7. Bickford- Velocity reports are all over the map, but he can generate Ks

8. Clark- The season seemed to be lacking any kind of hot streak. We shall see how he responds to his first down year

9. Diplan- Usually the jump from A to A+ hasn’t been too hard on pitchers given the nature of Space Coast Stadium, but it was a strange year in that regard

10. Phillips- It was a rough July, but he did have his best K:BB ratio in August, so hopefully he is headed back in the right direction. His path has gotten a lot more crowded though with the addition of Brinson and the emergence of Broxton.

11. Ponce- Velocity reports are devestating and it wasn't a good year, but maybe it’s a temporary mechanics adjustment thing.

12.Lopez- His command got far better in Biloxi, a nice start there next year, and I'd use the MLB bullpen as his next developmental stop over a return trip to Colorado Springs.

13. Erceg- More power than expected, but I still wish he'd walk more.

14. D. Williams- He needs to get better in the walk department and seems to be going the wrong way

15. Nottingham- Trying to find a positive in his season is tough, but at least he was young for the level

16. Harrison-Shows flashes of his potential, but injuries may derail any chance he had of breaking out

17. Webb- His college stats and scoting report make me think this was a first round talent, who scouts didn’t know where to place with only 1 post injury college season.

18. Peralta- Lots fo positives from his first year of full season ball

19. Kirby- Do the Brewers keep their TJ surgury recoveries in hiding? Hardly a peep on him, Williams, or Missaki.

20. Burnes- I don't quite understand why he was still on the board in the 4th round

21. Yamamoto- Got torpedoed a few more times than you'd like, but being youg for the league with a double digit K rate will put you on my radar.

22. Stokes- I am sucker for guys who show progression as the season goes on and an .850 OPS on the second half does that for me.

23. Barnes- With Knebel's struggles this year, seems like a logical 8th inning candidate next season.

24.Wilkerson- A sub 4 FIP tells a different story than his unsightly Colorado Springs ERA. Probably should get a shot at some point but with 7 rotation candidates on the 40 man (Davies, Guerra, Nelson, Peralta, Garza, Anderson, and Jungmann) and Hader knocking on the door, Im not sure when.

25. Cordell- Not a fan of this acquisition. He can knock the piss out of the ball in High Desert, but do not see enough OBP here to be useful moving forward

Perrin- Self-described "run of the mill" college right hander, but the Brewers should find that mill and get some more.

Reed- His season wast a disaster, but it won’t get him more MLB playing time and the power doesn’t seem to be coming.

Lara- I want so bad for Gilbert to tap into the potential, but he has shown little progression

M. Diaz- Had a nice year, but got statistically overshadowed by younger pitchers on that Wisconsin staff

T. Williams- After 2 full years of waiting, if he gets taken in the rule 5 draft I might cry.

Suter- Well I still shrug my shoulders at a fastball averaging below 84 mph and pedestrian K rate, I don’t mind him as a long man in the pen

Medeiros- A disaster from start to finish. Was in my top 5 preseason as I saw a dominant reliever as his floor, but that doesn’t even seem likely.

Gatewood- A plummeting BB rate and little indication of a breakout

Orimoloye- Having loud tools is nice, but you don’t want to see regression from a raw prospect in year 2.

M. Feliciano - Still not yet 18 so I'll assuem the second round tools are there even in a pedestrian start to his pro career.

G. Garcia- Soemone in the Brewers scouting department did their job here, but his production did tail off at the end.

Coulter- It was a nice 100 at bats, but rediscovering the power stroke would make believe again

Supak- No red flags in his season, but nothing standing out either

Z. Brown- Rewarded the Brewers faith with his results in Wisconsin after an underwhelming college career. Dreaming of Woodruff 2.0 here.

Walters- Is it possible for a pitcher to improve their command as much as Walters needs to to become a have a big league future? The jump in strkeouts was nice though

Taylor- Well he hit more dingers than last year.

McClanahan- Meh pro debut, but $1.2 million makes an interesting follow

Wang- Doesn’t do much exciting, but he limit walks enough that he might make the backend of a rotation at some point

Ventura- Didn’t excel at AA, but I'm willing to wait another year.

P. Henry- Coming out of cold weather high school, a 98 wRC is a fine start to his career

C. Herrera- Was hoping for a better stateside debut, but certainly a wide range of outcomes here still

Magnifico-Looked overmatched in the bigs. He has never missed enough bats for me to be super excited about his future.

Neuhaus- He has really hit well in his last 100 at bats. Unfortunately they have come over a season and a half. Still I can't say for certain something hasn't clicked

Pina- Probably undervalueing what he is, relative to what others "could" be. I don’t see an reason why he shouldn’t be a 1-2 win player.

Rijo- The Brewers front office is much smarter than me, but I didn’t get super excited about players who don’t hit regardless of age

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

1. Lewis Brinson-

Our two top prospects are both future gold glovers. However, one is a 5-tool player and the potential to be a 30-30 player in a time that features virtually none. Welcome to the top spot Brinson. +0

2. Josh Hader-

I am sticking him over Ortiz because he is a more sure thing and closer to the MLB. I don't think he will be the TOR guy some are dreaming of, but he could be a mid-rotation guy or at worst an electric reliever. +1

3. Luis Ortiz-

I think he has a higher ceiling than Hader, but there are health concerns and he is farther off. Nastiest stuff in the organization. +1

4. Isan Diaz-

This kid is legit and putting up great stats at Single-A. The power is there and the OBP skills are there too. Can't wait to watch him climb the ladder and the rankings. He may have to move to 2B, but his bat will play there just fine.+3

5. Corey Ray-

I know a lot of people weren't happy with drafting him, but he has all the tools to be a great above average OFer. He has started out slow, but I am not concerned yet. +1

6. Phil Bickford-

What a player to get for Will Smith. Bickford could end up as mid-rotation starter or at worst a top of the line reliever. He is going to be a force one way or the other. -1

7. Brandon Woodruff-

Woodruff has a solid arsenal with three above average offerings. He seems like a safe bet to be a #3 starter and for that reason he will be in the Top 10 prospects. He lacks the ceiling I would prefer in a Top 5 organizational prospect though. +14

8. Trent Clark-

I love the hit tool and even more so with his great OBP skills he has shown. He is going to figure it out and break out soon enough. +0

9. Brett Phillips-

Phillips is a hard one to figure out. The second he came over to Milwaukee his K% spiked nearly double, but on the other hand his BB% went up too. He has the tools to be very good hopefully it will come together. +0

10. Lucas Erceg-

Lucas Erceg looked pretty comfortable and showed a lot more power than one would think. He has room to build onto his frame and have legit power. That being said he was a college bat doing well at A-ball. Wont put him higher till he continues at A+ and AA. +5

11. Marcos Diplan -1

12. Cody Ponce -1

13. Freddy Peralta -1

14. Nathan Kirby -1

15. Monte Harrison -1

16. Kodi Medeiros +1

17. Jorge Lopez -1

18. Corbin Burnes -1

19. Jake Gatewood -1

20. Ryan Cordell NEW!

21. Jacob Nottingham +2

22. Devin Williams +2

23. Gilbert Lara -1

24. Mario Feliciano NEW!

25. Tyrone Taylor +0

26. Wei-Chung Wang +4

27. Chad McClanahan +0

28. Brent Suter +0

29. Michael Reed NEW!

30. Devin Williams -6
