Official Draft Discussion Thread (Rounds 10-19)

In fact, the most physically interesting player drafted was Jemile Weeks, who, at 5'9 and 160 pounds dripping wet and his brother giving him a noogie, becomes one of the smallest players in the system, with possibly only KB giving him a run for his small man money.

But hey, Mega Thomas could make a return at any time.

yeah, that's one person Leskanic could post up in a game of one on one. Just saying this cause sports always have skewed heights and weights. When I got to hang out w/Lesky, I swore he was 1-2" shorter than me (I'm 5'10", 5'11" on a good day), yet he was listed at like 6'1".

In the Fall League, the Marlins pitchers were all like 6'4", but the Angels, A's, Royals, and Phillies' guys were not significantly bigger than me.

what about Angel Salome? He's heavier than Jamile, but he looks 5'5, tops.

Patrick Ryan: 6'1", 198 lbs.

combines a low 90s fastball with an 82 mph, 12/6 curveball and a quality change-up? a very driven athlete who continues to make significant gains in the weight room and with overall fitness level

last year the Crew tried to sign rounds 1-20 or so, then the rest were DFE or high school players who dropped (Bowman, for one) but who they wanted to sign or DFE

although these guys are all 22 or 23, so I don't think they're DFE candidates

When the Braddock pick was announced by the Brewers' guy, he said Zack Braddock. William must be his official first name, but he goes by Zack.

If he doesn't lose "Zach" and start going by Billy, so I can refer to him as Billy "Crash" Braddock, I'll be crushed.

Also, wanted to point out that Jon Mueller, 16th round selection by the Cubs, is a La Crosse, WI native and graduate of my alma mater, La Crosse Logan.

I found a picture of Ryan Babineau in action from the Area Code Games last summer. Nothing special, but I thought I would share:

colbyjack, have you been in touch with anyone at Weatherford in Texas? A web search doesn't show 11th round RHP Brent Allar with a commitment to a four-year school, although I imagine he probably has one in hand.

Probably the first-day draft pick we know the least about, just wondering if he'll be inked by fall, as he won't be a draft-and-follow candidate.

See the draft thread, Mass... I added some more info about Brent.

Sorry Mass, I completely missed your question until this evening. I emailed as many coaches as I could the days after the draft, including Allar's at Weatherford. I received no reply, hoping to get info on both Allar & Arietta. As I pointed out in the current Weeks' thread, I suspect that Allar may be injured, and both he and Arietta are supposed to transfer to TCU. Arietta had a big year in the Texas Collegiate League.

Anyway, I found some info on Timothy Smith, who likely will be a DFE, on PG's site. Here's a scouting report on him from the 2003 Northeast Top Prospect Showcase, as he received a 9.5 rating on a 10 point scale.

Smith is an "04" OF/1B from Ontario with big league tools. At 6'2/200 he looks athletic strong. He runs very well and has a big league arm from the outfield (89) mph in Wareham. His arm action is smooth, his throws showed excellent carry and accuracy. Almost makes you think he should be a LHP. He's also a good outfielder and a smooth 1B. Now the best part, this kid is one outstanding hitting prospect. His LH bat features a good approach, nice balance, a beautiful swing, MLB bat speed with just a bit of loft and a strong finish. He has serious long ball power potential. He has straight away power and though we haven't seen it, we are sure he has hit some monster shots with that swing. Tim should be scouted heavily right up to the June draft.
