Brevard County Box Score

The Manatees managed 15 hits offensively (although just 1 extra base hit). Jon Perrin and Freddy Peralta combined to strike out 9 (albeit with too many hits and runs mixed in). Plenty to check out in the game story, box score, and game log.

Sorry for the abbreviated post, but the last week of the MiLB season unfortunately coincides with quite a few real world obligations.

Here's the updated scoop on the Shuckers playoff chances.

Everyone should be a Pensacola Blue Wahoos fan, because Pensacola, which won the first half division title, needs to also win the second half title in order to put Biloxi into play.

Pensacola trails Mississippi by 2.5 games (three in the loss column). The Blue Wahoos have ten games left, as do the M-Braves, so those two teams cannot finish in a tie.

Mississippi finishes its season, however, with a five-game home series vs. your Biloxi Shuckers. So you can see how huge this five-game sweep was for Biloxi. Mississippi was 33-20 in the second half before their current six-game skid, now 33-26.

If Pensacola takes the 2nd half title and can overcome that 2.5 game gap, the team with the 2nd best overall season mark makes the playoffs. Right now, Biloxi trails Mississippi by just half a game.

In other words, if Biloxi takes care of its own business, especially in the final five games, things are looking up.

If you want to Southern League scoreboard watch, root for Chattanooga over Mississippi and Pensacola over Jacksonville over the next set of five-game series. The teams we're rooting for are all at home (Chattanooga, Pensacola, and Biloxi).

Biloxi takes on Jackson (Mariners) in their next five-game series.

Just making sure (while we're talking playoffs), that you read this snippet from the Timber Rattlers' game summary --

The Rattlers are just one game behind the Burlington Bees with nine games left to play in the season. Quad Cities remained five games behind the Bees.

Wisconsin does not play Burlington in anymore this season, but the Rattlers hold the tie-breaker over the Bees by virtue of winning the season series between the teams. If the Rattlers and Bees would finish the season with the same record, the Rattlers would go through to the playoffs.

So yes, Link Report fans, we do have fun scoreboard watching down the stretch.

Heck, it would still be very improbable overall, but talk to us Monday AM if the Sky Sox win all three games at Oklahoma City this weekend, including Saturday's doubleheader. Then we can talk at least a AAA possibility as well. Without a three-game weekend sweep, not really worth discussing.

A weekend sweep puts the Sky Sox 3.5 games back with eight to play, just two back in the loss column.

Final: Great Falls 7, Helena 2

Gee, remember when Helena started the season 5-1?

They are an ugly 18-38 since.

Brewers Drop Fifth Straight

HELENA, MT - The Great Falls Voyagers and Helena Brewers met for the final time in 2016 on Friday night at Kindrick Legion Field. The Voyagers scored three times in the second inning, and went on to defeat the Brewers 8-5, handing the Brewers their fifth straight defeat.

The Brewers' Nash Walters left the game after the first inning, and Santos Saldivar came on in the second, riding a streak of five straight scoreless outings. The right-hander allowed a two-run home run to Max Dutto after giving up an RBI single to Anthony Villa, and the Voyagers cruised from there.

The Brewers did not record a hit until the sixth, and they got on the board in the seventh when Gilbert Lara scored on a wild pitch.

The Voyagers scored two more in the eighth and a Ronnie Gideon home run in the ninth inning brought the final score to 7-2.

Rodrigo Benoit worked his longest outing of the season, 5.2 innings, and Colton Cross finished the game for the Brewers with 1.1 scoreless innings.

The Brewers finished the regular season series by dropping 11 of 13 to Great Falls, and they have lost nine of their last 10 games, having been held to two runs or less in seven of the last 10.

Helena welcomes Billings to town for a two game series beginning Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 (8:05 Central) at Kindrick Legion Field.

THREE MORE PHOTOS (Thanks, James Ridle, for the great shots all home season long)

No word on the reason for the extra-brief Nash Walters start; Ronnie Gideon homered, because, well, because of course he did, #15...

By the way, Nashville Sounds ownership got what they were looking for in Year 2 of the Brewers break-up; A's give them 78-56 & an early playoff clinch.

Oh, and it was the Sounds' first playoff clinch since 2007. That was the year Ryan Braun played 34 games there before his callup.

It's why the Brewers are with the Sky Sox now, folks.

Final: Arizona Dodgers 7, Arizona Brewers 6, 16 innings

Heck, four hours and 14 minutes seems reasonable....

Maryvale Box Score

Four Brewer pitchers combined to strike out 21 and walk only one; Dodger pitchers fanned 22 and walked five.

LHP Boanerges Nova walked none and fanned nine in five scoreless innings, wow. The DSL product will be 24 in February, look for him to be a Timber Rattler next April.

Second baseman Tucker Neuhaus tripled and singled twice in his 2nd rehab game, showing that he'd like to be added to the Wisconsin playoff push.

18-year-old big bonus 3B Chad McClanahan was 1-for-7, but the "1" was his 3rd home run of the summer.

Normally productive RF Jay Feliciano was 0-for-7 with five K's, ouch.

18-year-old Dodgers 1st round SS, Gavin Lux of Kenosha, has been solid but not spectacular.

Maryvale Game Log

Ejections: AZL Brewers Manager Tony Diggs ejected by HP umpire Chad Dixon (8th); AZL Brewers catcher Payton Henry ejected by HP umpire Chad Dixon (8th)

Maybe Henry was chirping?

AZL Brewers Top of the 8th

Chad McClanahan grounds out to first baseman Dylan Cook.

Jay Feliciano grounds out, third baseman Cristian Santana to first baseman Dylan Cook.

Tyrone Perry strikes out swinging.

AZL Dodgers Bottom of the 8th

wow, I know its the PCL, but those are some awesome hitting numbers. great memories. the MLB team had great hitting too- just very little pitching- the story of their late 2000s window. They could have used someone like RA Dickey and Grant Balfour....oh.

Still irked about that Linebrink deal- so much pressure to "do something"- wish they had had the patience to give more of a shot to their AAA guys like Thatcher, Aquino, DiFelice, Stetter, McClung, and Balfour- all of whom dominated PCL hitters. the potential rising of 1-2 of them, may have also had the latent benefit of not feeling the need to sign Riske and Gagne the following offseason.

that season also saw the empty promise of Capellan and Parra and the bursts of things to come in Gallardo and Braun.

and heart-warming to see Dillard there- nine years ago- :) and poor AAAA All-Star, Joe Dillon- always in the wrong place at the wrong time.

ahh, what could have been.
