DSL Brewers 10, DSL Braves 7

A rare hitters battle today. Axel Cruz got the win in relief of Henry Medina but Alberto Paulino worked the final two innings and was the only Brewers pitcher not to give up a run today.

The Brewers drew 8 walks and recorded 10 hits. Jesus Lujano (2-4, 2B, BB, 2 SB), Nic Pierre (0-3, 2 BB, SB), Moises Perez (1-4, BB, SB), Javier Castillo (2-5), Edwin Sano (1-4, HR), Aaron Familia (3-4, 2 2B, BB) and Luis Avila (2 BB) led the way. DSL Brewers Box Score

I'm not saying the roster is loaded in Brevard, but they have too much talent to be that dreadfully bad.

Well this is the downside of aggressively promoting pitchers before their stuff is ready for the next level. Starting with Ventura in AA and then working on down there have been plenty of pitchers promoted early and the results on the whole have been pretty poor. It's one thing to promote someone like Perrin who can throw strikes consistently and it's another to push pitchers and make them learn on the fly like the traditional "trial by fire" method of prospect development.

Hopefully these guys can hit the ground running next year.

Jake Gatewood homered for the Timber Rattlers on Friday night against the Beloit Snappers. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica)

Wisconsin Boxscore

The Rattlers worked over by a guy named Boomer Biegalski, what an interesting name.

Miguel Diaz and Trey Supak struck out plenty of batters fanning 11 total hitters between them, but the over all result left something to be desired.

T-Rat hitters collected just 6 hits and Carlos Belonis (2-3) had the only multi hit game.

Biloxi Boxscore

Winning streak over... damn.

As well as Brandon Woodruff was pitching through July the last 2 starts have been that bad. Tristan Archer also blew up and didn't make it out of the 7th.

Brett Phillips was caught stealing today and his name shows up in that part of the box so rarely that I had to look and see how he was doing, he's 11 for 16 on the season.

Final: Arizona Royals 8, Arizona Brewers 5

Maryvale Box Score

Welcome back to 1B Tyrone Perry, who injured his hamate bone in his season opener back in June - Perry was 0-for-4 with three K's; second baseman Trey York, who has been so solid all summer, had a night to forget, a platinum sombrero, 0-for-5 (five K's). 18-year-old Gabriel Garcia, playing first base here, tripled and walked and his OPS is still a healthy .906.

Maryvale Game Log

More noticing idle players -- 36th round RHP Parker Bean last pitched July 25th after only two outings; Baseball America had noted that 37th round SS Jomar Cortes was the youngest player in the Pioneer League when he was transferred to Helena from Maryvale on July 18th. However, he last played on July 7th, and it seems his was a paper transfer only to free up a necessary roster spot in Maryvale, where the limit is 35 active players.

Final: Tampa 11, Brevard County 0

Tampa's offense overpowers Manatees

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

Brevard County Box Score

Just a little perspective on how bad this season has been, Brevard County lost their 10th in a row and were shutout for the 20th time this season. They are now 49 games below .500 at 37-86 on the season. They have scored a Florida State League low 391 runs while allowing an FSL high 575 runs for a -184 run differential.

Manatees starter Marcos Diplan (1-2) allowed 5 runs and 7 hits over 5.0 innings. Diplan also walked 3 and struck out 3.

Brevard County Game Log

After Tampa pitcher Nestor Cortes had retired the first 22 Manatees batters, Mitch Ghelfi broke up the perfect game in the 7th inning with a double. Ghelfi started out his first 5 games with the Manatees going 0-for-12. Since then Ghelfi has batted 16-for-49 (.327). Of those 16 hits, 6 have been doubles.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Helena Box Score

Be sure to read that game summary regarding Wes Wilson's triple prowess; OF Yerald Martinez was all about HR's and not much else early in the season, and now that the long balls have dried up, it's empty and ugly; Wisconsin's Lucas Erceg is still 3rd on this team in RBI...

Is it just me, or do opposing teams seem to be hitting the ball just fine in Brevard lately. We always talk about how hard it is to have good offensive production in that ballpark, but why does it not seem to effect the opposition as much as it effects our own team?
