DSL Cardinals 6, DSL Brewers 4

Johan Dominguez (4 1/3 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 6 K) started for the Brewers and could not get out of the 5th inning, when the Cardinals scored all 6 runs. He gave up 3 walks and 2 singles in the 5th before giving way to Freisis Adames who could not prevent more damage. Dominguez had obviously been pitching very well until the 5th.

The Brewers scored all their runs in the 3rd:

Luis Manon walks.

Luis Avalo singles on a line drive to right fielder Wadye Ynfante. Luis Manon to 2nd.

Marcos Pinero walks. Luis Manon to 3rd. Luis Avalo to 2nd.

Bryan Torres walks. Luis Manon scores. Luis Avalo to 3rd. Marcos Pinero to 2nd.

Pitching Change: Brian Pirela replaces Johan Oviedo.

Yorki Franco reaches on a force attempt, missed catch error by catcher Carlos Soto Jr. , assist to first baseman Leandro Cedeno. Luis Avalo scores. Marcos Pinero to 3rd. Bryan Torres to 2nd.

Jesus Lujano singles on a line drive to center fielder Jonathan Machado. Marcos Pinero scores. Bryan Torres to 3rd. Yorki Franco to 2nd.

Aaron Familia pops out to first baseman Leandro Cedeno.

Javier Castillo grounds out, third baseman Elehuris Montero to first baseman Leandro Cedeno. Bryan Torres scores. Yorki Franco to 3rd. Jesus Lujano to 2nd.

Antonio Pinero flies out to center fielder Jonathan Machado

Shuckers roll past BayBears, 7-1

Angel Ortega homers and drives in four runs Thursday as Shuckers win third straight

Biloxi Shuckers

Angel Ortega was 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI on Thursday night (Michael Krebs)

Biloxi Boxscore

Ladies and Gentlemen, a winning streak!

Taylor Jungmann walked 7(!) in just 4.2 innings, allowed 4 hits, and struck out 5 but somehow only gave up 1 run. 3 relievers combined to finish off the game in scoreless fashion, both Tayler Scott and Junior Rincon need to finish on a high note so this game was good for both.

Angel Ortega had a nice little run last week, then went hitless 4 straight games, and now has 4 hits over his last 2 games. Ortega was doing alright until July when he slumped along with the rest of the offense, though Tyrone Taylor was hot for a while there.

Rattlers Record a Stunning 7-6 Victory

Sharkey homers twice & Griep sets Rattlers record for saves in a season

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

I took a night off from baseball (well sort of) to watch some football, but I imagine that Zack Brown didn't come back out after the first because all of the college guys are on pretty strict pitch counts and after 44 pitches that was about it. That's an avalanche of pitches for an inning, I'm actually surprised that he was allowed to finish it.

Miguel Sanchez has had an interesting season and pitched alright today, for whatever reason walks get under my skin and that's the first thing I look at in every box... how many walks in how many innings. It's actually kind of odd, because I fully expect young pitchers in the Brewer's organization to have a BB/9 between 3 and 5, but I digress. So of course I think Corbin Burnes walked too many, but he did SO 5 batters in 3 scoreless innings. Nate Griep, the "Grim Grieper" set the franchise record for saves with 3 strike outs in the 9th, I'm sure Chris will likely have more on that in the game story.

Take Isan Diaz (3-4,HR), add some Alan Sharkey (2-3,2 HR,BB), and you have instant offense, at least for 1 day, as between them they knocked in all 7 runs. Diaz has been great for the majority of the second half, but Sharkey really needed this game. I admit that I really like Alan, he's one of those guys who does so many of the little things right, it's too bad he's had such a tough season at the plate. Natanael Mejia hasn't seen much action this season, but he had a nice game at the plate going 2-4.

Final: Clearwater 7, Brevard County 4

Manatees swept by Lakeland

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

***

Brevard County Box Score

Of the Manatees 8 hits, 6 of them were doubles. Leading the way with 3 doubles was Corey Ray (3-for-5, 3 2B) who raised his month of August OPS to .850. Since August 1st Ray has hit 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 3 home runs. He has also walked 8 times during that span.

Brevard County Game Log

The 10 walks issued by Manatees pitchers were split between Devin Williams (4 walks and a wild pitch) and Phil Bickford (6 walks and a hit batter). They recorded two strikeouts apiece.

As usual for home games the game story provides quotes from manager Joe Ayrault. Ayrault points out that Bickford's control issues were due to trouble gripping the ball in the humidity which he hasn't been accustomed to pitching in before.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Grand Junction led Helena, 2-0 in the top of the 4th, when rains came and cancelled the contest, as this was the last scheduled game between the clubs.

SS Trever Morrison and LF Caleb Whalen will lose doubles from their stat line, RHP Emerson Gibbs was on his way to an OK, but not stellar, start.

I, too, was pulled away from our online community and baseball last night (as it seems too many nights as of late), but just quickly scanning last night's action, I'm looking forward to digging in deeper to the game summaries and box scores, and the notes provided by our team of Link Reporters. More than any other year, the Link Report would not exist without their efforts for you, so much appreciated.

Like many of you, just learning now of Brent Suter's promotion. So happy for the man. 31st round pick.

That's on a grander scale than LH reliever Stephen Peterson's bump this week to AAA as an undrafted free agent who spent three full (not partial, but full) seasons at Brevard County, but that and especially Suter's promotion speaks volumes to every player in the organization with a uniform on.

Would Suter's promotion have happened if the Brewers were in contention? Who knows, but certainly the message is there, and I can't wait to stay up tonight and watch him throw a pitch every ten seconds or so. That must have been a psyched Colorado Springs squad for Brent, looking forward to catching up on Thursday's Twitter timeline as well to see some of their reactions. Go Harvard!
