DSL Brewers 6, DSL Nationals 2

A 5 run 4th inning was more than enough to win this game for the Brewers. They had quite a bit of help from the Nationals:

With Bryan Connell batting, throwing error by Malvin Pena on the pickoff attempt, Jesus Lujano to 3rd.

According to the Blue Jays' announcer, Medeiros is now throwing his fastball in the mid-80's with curveball in the 70's. This is really not working at all. Maybe it's time to pull the plug and go back to square one. He can't throw his fastball for strikes even dropping his speed by 10 mph.

Moore holds Shuckers in check during 3-1 loss to Generals

Taylor Jungmann turned in his fourth consecutive quality start in loss

Biloxi Shuckers

Taylor Jungmann allowed three runs over seven quality innings on Friday night (Mark P Driscoll)

Biloxi Boxscore

Taylor Jungmann was much better later in the game, but by then the Shuckers were already down 3-1 and with the typical offensive output of this team being down just 2 runs seems like a steep hill to climb. Biloxi has scored just 385 runs in 115 games, Jackson has scored 531 in the same number.

Opposing pitcher Andrew Moore is more of a sniper than a stuff guy, his FB is very average, but his control is excellent, his off speed has improved, and he got the better end of this dual.

Dustin DeMuth has gone hitless 2 games in a row, say it ain't so!

Final: Dunedin 6, Brevard County 2

Medeiros shaky in loss at Dunedin

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

***

Brevard County Box Score

As mentioned earlier in the thread, Kodi Medeiros was reportedly working 84-86 mph with his fastball. I have to assume the organization had him working on some specific things since that is a fairly steep velocity drop-off from earlier this season. Medeiros gave up 5 hits and 4 walks leading to 5 runs over his 4.0 innings worked.

For the second consecutive night Corey Ray (2-for-4, HR) left the yard. Hoping to see the recent power surge continue through August. The other two hit performances were Blake Allemand (2-for-4, 2B) and Mitch Ghelfi (2-for-3, 2B)

David Denson managed a hit in his first game with the Manatees on August 4th. Since then he has gone 0-for-26 from the plate.

Snappers Shutout and Slam the Rattlers

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

Jordan Desguin got the loss but pitched extremely well allowing 1 run on 4 hits and a walk over 5 innings while striking out 5. Jake Drossner struggled coming out of the pen, which was atypical as I've pointed out for whatever reason he's been much more effective in relief this season. That 8th inning really got away from him.

Lucas Erceg (2-4) recorded the only multi hit game for the Rattlers and while the Rattlers put 9 hits on the board, they combined poor situational hitting with mistakes on the bases and managed just the 1 run.

Sky Sox Fall To Isotopes 7-4 In Opener

Reed's four hits not enough as Sky Sox drop first game.

By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Colorado Springs Boxscore

Despite 15 hits, the Sky Sox couldn't score much this evening, getting only four runs in their lose to Albuquerque. Aaron Wilkerson was unimpressive surrendering eight hits and three walks in just three innings of work. Welcome to Colorado Springs!

Michael Reed continues to hit the ball well, going 4-4 including a double and an RBI. Reed has boosted his batting average to .256 for the year. Kyle Wren and Lewis Brinson each had three hits for the Sky Sox, while Brandon Macias and Garin Cecchini each added a pair.

Andrew Susac is just 2 for 30 since joining the Sky Sox in the trade for Will Smith.

Colorado Springs Game Log

Colorado Spring had a chance to get back into the game in the 7th inning, but Nate Orf grounded into a double play with bases loaded. The Sky Sox had to settle for one run despite four hits in the inning.

Pitching Change: Shane Carle replaces Harrison Musgrave, batting 9th, replacing Brandon Barnes.

Yadiel Rivera flies out to right fielder Raimel Tapia.

Final: Helena 6, Orem 2

Helena Independent Record Game Summary

***

Helena Box Score

As you saw in the gallery, Ronnie Gideon is able to put his body behind his HR's, including his 10th here. That's 2nd in the league behind the 13 of the D-Backs' Eudy Ramos. Gideon is 4th in OPS, one spot ahead of Ramos.

Top five Brewers in the order reached 14 times, that's good.

Only 59 pitches in a stellar six-inning shutout, zero walk stint for RHP Wuilder Rodriguez.

Final: Arizona Brewers 14, Arizona White Sox 7

Maryvale Box Score

Five in the 1st inning, six in the 2nd - about the only downer was that young RHP Michael Gonzalez struggled in the 3rd; LHP Christian Trent got a late start to his season, but the 23-year-old LHP is sure ready to leave the desert after this effort.

With 24 baserunners via hit, walk, and HBP, several padded their numbers here, enjoy the box.

He's 20 years old. Way too soon to bail on him. The Brewers don't have unlimited amounts of quality players. He can't locate his fastball at the moment so whether he has 2 pitches or 20 is irrelevant. Kodi is walking 6.2 batters per game. Just as a reminder, Randy Johnson was walking 7.1/game at age 22.

Wake me up when he becomes Randy Johnson. People always go straight to the "it's too early to bail on him as a starter" response. Then when is it ok to bail? People also act as if the pen doesn't play a critical role in a team's success. He's almost through his 3rd level as a professional with terrible BB/9 ratios at every level, has given up more hits than IP every level except last year. His ERA hasn't been good at any level so when he allows guys on base he can't shut the door and prevent them from scoring. Change his entire routine and mind set and get him ready for the pen to move quickly through the system given he has the stuff to be very good there. Instead of throwing 90 pitches per game he can focus on 12-15. He has the potential to be much better because he hasn't flashed anything yet for a 1st Rd pick. People are already expressing concerns about Ray after 100 pro ABs but we should give Kodi a pass?

Umm...maybe when he's like 23 or 24?

To say his prospect status is slipping isn't much of a controversial statement. Saying a 20 year old pitcher who has never shown control even in any meaningful sample needs to immediately be removed from the rotation is where you lose me. Giving him less repetitions would seem counterintuitive at this point.

The velocity reports are disappointing. He didn't have much to lose.
