Perfect Game features - BaseballWebTV.com

I noticed a lot of posts are missing with today's ezboard complications, so you're not alone if you see the (This post is missing and can not be restored).

Anyway, my recent feature with Perfect Game involved an interview with Alex Gordon. As I noted in a different thread, I also spoke to Cameron Maybin recently, and that feature should be posted early next week. Enjoy.

Hey Patrick!

Your Roy Clark Interview is getting a litttle love over at SOSH since it mentions current Red Sox GM candidiate Dayton Moore . .

Quote:
I like the way in that interview with Roy Clark (is he pickin' or is he grinnin'?) he talks about how the Braves are committed to developing players, not just to picking the good ones. Seems like they try to help their players get better, instead of just sitting back and hoping they improve. Now every team talks like that and every team has plans for developing players, but it looks like the Braves have actually been able to do it, which is nice.

"you have to see these kids over and over and over again against the best competition to make the best decisions and the best choices, and that's what we try to do. Instead of seeing a kid in four at-bats in one game early in the spring before the draft, we try to see him in as many at-bats as we can, as many innings as we can, and the more we see him the better chance we have of getting him right."

I would hope that the Sox are using our revenue advantage to have more scouts on the field all over the place to investigate each potential player, both all over the US and all over the world, especially the DR. I don't know if they are doing that, though. It would be a very bad place to cut corners-- it should be an area that the Sox outspend all other teams.

Perfect Game has released it's newest feature, the launch of BaseballWebTV.com:

BaseballWebTV.com

BaseballWebTV.com is a venture Perfect Game has been thinking about for some time now, in which they will post videos of showcase and tournament events, have top prospect features and rankings, instructional videos and so much more. I am pleased to say that I have been involved with this venture, although in a very small fashion, providing the foundation of graphics for the new site's look, with more potential opportunities down the road.

Many of the features will be available to be viewed free of charge. There will also be a subscription based service on a couple of different levels. One smaller service will allow you to access a small range of features. The other will be an all-inclusive package that will allow you to watch anything you please. Some features will also be able to be viewed on a pay-per-view basis.

The main idea behind BaseballWebTV.com is to revolutionize scouting. The launch itself was bumped up due to the hurricane in Florida that bumped back the WWBA tourney in Jupiter. With the tournament being bumped back, college recruiters were not allowed to attend since it was pushed into the dead period of college recruiting. However, nothing is preventing college recruiters from watching this video from the comforts of their own home.

And even if college recruiters are able to go out and see and visit with high school players, they can't be everywhere at once. If two events are being held at the same time, such a person could go to one event to see the players they want there while watching the other one from home.

The same can be said for pro scouts. If Jack Zduriencik for instance is in Texas watching one player recommended to him by his scouts and crosscheckers, he may miss the performance of another player somewhere else. He would still have the scouting reports from his scouts on his player, but now he can watch video of such a player to put the scouting report to life.

There are going to be many grass-root endeavors of BaseballWebTV.com. Parents, friends and other family members are going to be encouraged to tape their sons play, and then submit the videos to BBWebTV.com to be shared with any and all.

It's really an exciting new venture. Like Perfect Game itself, most of their services are for the players, the recruiters and the scouts, but there is going to be a fair share of fans, like yours truly, that will get a tremendous kick out of this kind of access and overall coverage. BaseballWebTV.com also plan to spread it's wings to the college and minor league levels, offering reports on some of the top prospects on all levels below the Major Leagues.

The video coverage will be similar to what you see on MLB.com leading up to the draft. However, this video coverage will be available all-year long, and won't be limited to just game and individual player coverage, with some other examples being noted above.

Take the time to check out a few of the videos that are currently up for all to enjoy. I believe it's a Flash-based site, so if you're having trouble with the video screen, download the most recent version of Flash and see if that solves your problems.
