Guerra headed to DL, Peralta to be recalled for start on Tuesday; Goforth optioned, Scahill recalled

I think Guerra's one of those guys that didn't really build up a ton of trade value simply for the reasons people here wanted him traded (31, out of nowhere, etc. etc.). I'm guessing a few teams kicked the tires but never really offered anything. Stearns probably figured if he could get a full season out of Guerra that his value would be better in the offseason. All speculation on my part of course.

Yea, my guess is they didn't get any offers because teams were concerned about what just happened. Cleary an injury risk when a 31 yr old comes out of nowhere and throws a ton of innings.

Didn't Stearns say they had lots of discussions with teams about Guerra?

Not sure if he ever said "lots" but yes, I know he said he had discussions about him. Doesn't mean anyone actually offered a trade, or a trade of anything more than a middling prospect. If that's the case, I don't blame Stearns for rolling the dice if the only thing offered was minimal. One of those things we will probably never know.

Wily pitched well enough that he will likely get another start Sunday, but they will still need to cover the double header next week. Since the calendar turned to July, Jungmann has been very good with a sub-2 era in AA and is already on the 40 man so he seems likely to get the spot start, but I have to wonder if Suter or Hader will get a shot.

Sounds like he still needs to learn how to pitch. You don't need your top-end FB every time. If he can stay even near that range though, there's no hurry to send him to the BP. Let's see how the year plays out. Brewers need innings eaters like this for the next couple years anyhow.

Why do we always assume starters who throw hard but can't throw strikes would be better in the bullpen? Not being able to throw strikes is a major problem no matter what role you're pitching in.

Because they can get by one inning at a time throwing their top end fastball, instead of trying to do that for 6-7 innings. Sure, they still need to throw enough strikes regardless.

There need to be more Wade Davis types out there. I'm annoyed by inconsistent starters who throw hard that could be very good/great pen guys but either they or the team don't want them there. It's about maximizing a players potential. I understand starters get paid more but let's not pretend great pen guys can't put food on the table
