Isan Diaz is hitting .330 since the beginning of June.

He's inducing a lot of ground balls. A good thing for Miller Park, IMO.

He's at 1.05 GO/AO. In other words, for every 105 ground ball outs he gets, he gets 100 outs in the air. That's not a lot at all.

That makes his success all the more insane. He doesn't strike a lot guys out, he doesn't keep the ball on the ground, and doesn't give up many runs at all.

Suter Stifles Storm Chasers In 3-0 Win

Sky Sox allow just three hits to take opener in Omaha.

By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Colorado Springs Box Score

Behind a dominant start from their ace, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox started their road trip with a 3-0 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Sunday night in front of 7,121 at Werner Park.

In his best start of the season, Sky Sox southpaw Brent Suter (6-5, 3.07) pitched seven and two thirds scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while walking none and striking out one to earn his sixth win of the season.

Both pitchers got a little help from their defenses early. In the second, both the Sky Sox and Storm Chasers grounded into double plays in an inning that saw both teams get base runners, but no runs.

The Sky Sox broke through against Omaha starter Mike Minor (0-3, 5.84) in the third. After Michael Reed led off with a walk, Garin Cecchini singled to advance Reed to third. After falling behind 0-2, Yadiel Rivera singled to left on the ninth pitch of his at-bat to score Reed from third with the game's first run.

From the start of the game, Suter was at the top of his game. He retired the side in order in the first, and then got through the second with the double play.

After the Sky Sox took the lead in the third, Suter got stronger on the mound. The Sky Sox southpaw retired all nine batters he faced between the third and fifth innings to keep Colorado Springs up 1-0.

Minor was pulled for a reliever in the fifth. The Omaha lefty pitched four and a third innings, allowing one earned run on three hits while walking three and striking out four. Minor suffered his third loss of the season.

In the sixth, Suter again set down the side in order, with more help from his defense. With one out, Parker Morin hit a deep fly ball to right-center. Reed and center fielder Lewis Brinson gave chase, and it was Brinson who hustled over to make the catch to save a hit in what proved to be another scoreless inning.

The Sky Sox loaded the bases with one out in the seventh off reliever Luke Farrell, but they could not score as Farrell retired Cecchini and Rivera to end the frame. In the bottom half, Suter kept the Sky Sox in front by retiring the side on just nine pitches.

After leaving the bases loaded in the seventh, the Sky Sox didn't falter offensively in the eighth. After Nate Orf drew a one-out walk, Lewis Brinson doubled down the right field line to extend his Sky Sox hitting streak to six games. Right fielder Jorge Bonifacio had trouble with the ball in right, allowing Orf to score on an error and give the Sky Sox a 2-0 lead.

The Storm Chasers put a pair of runners on base against Suter in the eighth. The Sky Sox went to the bullpen with two outs and two on. Closer Damien Magnifico entered to pitch to Tony Cruz. On three pitches, Magnifico struck out Cruz looking to end the inning.

In the ninth, Josmil Pinto led off with a solo home run, his seventh of the season, to increase the Sky Sox lead to 3-0 going to the bottom half.

In the bottom half, Magnifico returned to the mound and retired the side in order to earn his 15th save of the season.

In game two of the series, Josh Hader (0-3, 5.44) is scheduled to get the start on the mound for the Sky Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. MDT at Werner Park.

Much like Ortega. Great Suter has figured out how to get outs, I just can't imagine that translating to MLB.

I'd be curious to know what the exit velocity of balls in play is for Suter? Maybe he just generates super weak contact....a lot.

Timber Rattlers drop 6-4 decision to Kane County

Luis Aviles went 2-for-4 with a triple, a homer, two runs, and two RBI for the Rattlers on Sunday. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica)

Wisconsin Boxscore

Yesterday it was Greip, today it was Scott Grist. Zach Brown was exceedingly upset with the umpiring crew after the messed up 4th inning and while he didn't get into an argument, he did stare down the home plate umpire and was told to get in the dugout. Corbin Burnes continues to pitch well.

Luis Aviles (2-4,HR,3B) turned around a letter high 96 MPH FB on his HR, that's probably thing I like most about the change in drafting philosophy, most our young men have the ability to turn around those kind of FBs, which wasn't the case in the past. Carlos Belonis (4-4) was perfect at the plate, he had been slumping a while.

I forgot to mention this previously but Isan Diaz' arm gets exposed when going to his right, he tends to lollipop the throws from the hole.

Is Suter the one who went to Harvard? If so, that's cool.

Either way, let's get him up here. He's got enough mental toughness not to have his approach destroyed being in Colorado. We've had other guys shrivel up and go into the fetal position in Colorado. Suter took it head on. That says something interesting.

Wahoos pull away late to beat Shuckers

Taylor Jungmann tossed his third straight quality start on Sunday

Taylor Jungmann tossed his third straight quality start but settled for a no decision on Sunday (Mark P Driscoll)

Biloxi Boxscore

Taylor Jungmann surrendered a single unearned run, walked 1, and struck out 8 over his 6 innings. He did give up a double immediately following the error in the 6th, XBHs have been his kryptonite. Does he finish in Biloxi or move back up to Colorado Springs at some point? Junior Rincon allowed all 3 of Stephen Peterson's inherited runners to score.

Biloxi scattered 8 hits and only managed 1 run though Clint Coulter remains hot in his short AA stint.
