Handball is amusing, but after watching it, I think a team of six NBA power forwards + a goalkeeper would win the gold medal by double-digits if they had a month or two. Can't step foot in the crease? Irrelevant, says LeBron as he invents the handball dunk.

Handball coach said Lebron would be best handball player in the world inside of 6 months. I'd take the under on that.

I mean there's an NFL guy on the Olympic rugby team....I bet there are a ton of dudes that play in the D league that would be incredible at team handball.

The NFL dude was a rugby player before his played football so it's not exactly the same situation.

Usain Bolt.

Watching the World Championships last, Bolt looked susceptible. His 0.01 win over Gaitlin was considered by many as "Bolt didn't win, Gaitlin lost". But watching the semis, it was obvious Bolt was back.

Watching all three Americans finish in the top ten in the women's marathon was cool.

So why would Lochte file a false police report on the robbery? If he was just out on the town and got into some crazy **** why not let it be and just move on with your life? I don't see why he would draw attention to himself when of course the police are going to follow up and try to corroborate everything you told them.

Just a really weird deal.

He never filed a police report, he just gave interviews. That was part of the problem. After listening to him speak for the past few Olympics, Lochte never struck me as a brain trust. Makes USA look bad, and will taint whatever legacy he has. Weird is right.

NBC bugs me, once again. They have a tendency to gush over two or three guys and ignore the rest of the field. Case in point the decathlon, would have been nice to give some kudos to Zak Ziemak.

"Lucky Loser" is a new term for me.

Women's water polo bronze medal match, HUN with a goal lead with time winding down and mismanage the clock on their final possession. RUS scores a buzzer beater to tie it and force a SO. RUS win s the SO. Sort of like a basketball game.

I am in no way surprised by the Lochte story.

Some of the lesser-discussed track and field events are really fun to watch. Hammer throw is awesome. Anita Wlodarczyk has now set the record something like a half-dozen times.

As for race-walking...let's just say I thought runs got you eliminated.

I was under the impression he actually talked to the police. If he didn't its not like he broke any laws spewing untruthful stuff to the media. That stuff never happens.

Maybe in the US. Who knows what law he could have broken in Brazil. In the US it probably wouldn't be legal for a security guard to hold someone at gunpoint demanding them to pay for breaking a bathroom mirror. However sounds like one can in Brazil.

Overall I had a fun time watching the Olympics. My only complaint really was that the primetime events were on so late (east coast time). This caused me to have to watch them the next day several times. I enjoy having something like this to watch for a couple weeks.

Some of the events really started that late, which I found odd. Some of those beach volleyball matches started after midnight Rio time.

One huge complaint I have though is that NBC took a lot of the better stuff and tape delayed it, which was absolutely unnecessary with the slight time change. I know they wanted to put the best stuff in prime time, but there was no reason to not show everything live with just a 2 hour difference. It's almost impossible to make it through a day without seeing stuff - like the women's gymnastics. My wife really wanted to see that, knew it was on at night...opened up Yahoo to check her email and she saw the results, in the middle of the afternoon. She was not pleased.

I was disappointed overall. I watch the Olympics to see the world stage and events that do not get much air time. I despise NBC's fluff pieces because it seems like that is over 50% of the content. The US-centric coverage, ok, I get it. But I still want to see more action and less BS. And way too much swimming and gymnastics for my taste. The delayed coverage was weak. Countless spoilers on medals before seeing it live.

Next couple Olympics are going to be even worse for spoilers. S Korea and Japan; virtually everyone in US is going to know the results before its on TV.

I agree that the fluff pieces on the main NBC networks were annoying. There were so many other possible events they could have broadcast instead.

I don't mind the so called "fluff pieces". Many times they are inside stories about one of the athletes and the road they took to get where they are and possibly some obstacles they had to overcome. To me, that's a lot of what makes sports interesting, especially when it comes to the Olympics. It's not like I follow swimming or volleyball or rowing that closely, so to me, it's nice to have some background story on an athlete when I'm watching an event.

Is anyone else bothered by the "team" sports like volleyball, basketball, and soccer in the Olympics? How many of the members of those teams at the Olympics actually had anything to do with their country qualifying? Half, maybe?

Also, isn't there a major world wide soccer tournament every year? Does the sports really need another one? Same for basketball.

And golf and tennis. Do the pros in those sports care any more about the Olympics than say Wimbledon or the Masters?

Just seems pointless to me for all these sports to be in the Olympics since it's not their biggest event.

For tennis, for some, the Olympics have equal or more importance as the Slams. You can only win a gold every 4 years. Elusive. Different format than a normal tourney typically as well, usually some odd balls in the medal round. It's actually interesting for me, as a fan, to watch.

That is totally my take.

The "club championships" for baseball, basketball, football, hockey are the pinnacle events for their sports.

Golf and tennis each have four Grand Slam events. I don't see how the Olympics can be elevated over their events.

For T&F, swimming and gymnastics, the Olympics are their ultimate event. These are the sports where the athletes train to be at their physical peak.

Most of these sports have world championships every year. The Olympics are no world cup, but it is still a huge tournament likewise for tennis, golf, etc.

I don't get putting basketball or hockey in that comparison though. Both of those sports don't play internationally outside of the Olympics. Winning the Olympics is a lot different for them. Less important, but still a big deal.

Both sports have international world championships. The Hockey World Cup starts this weekend.
