Villar's Value at 3B

I'm sticking with Villar at 3b and SS backup. Isan Diaz if quickly becoming the 2b of the long term future. Perez I'd move on from in trade. Villar is better plain and simple. I believe in Villar's success just at the fact I believe he's SB hungry. His approach at the plate is to get on 1st base. Look to steal 2nd base. I'd think it'd die down a little should Billy Hamilton do what he's expected to do and steal 85+ in a season. Villar has been trying to protect leading SBs, you saw that in Pittsburgh as Marte was his competitor. Well, Hamilton has gone off for 11 in 10games 6 in last 2 games.

I think as he's falling in to the 2nd best behind Hamilton he'll slow down his 3b steal attempts. You also have to factor in to the season, so what he makes these mistakes on the basepaths? The Brewers are battling for a top 10 draft pick, not a Playoff berth. When 2018 comes and Milwaukee is approaching a .500+ type of team core, games matter then more than they do today.

Looking to 2018. Isan Diaz and 25+HR ability replaces Villar and 10-15HR ability. Literally, Villar has cemented himself as Leadoff on the Brewers for years now. Arcia has the fortune to not have to fit to that mold. Other hitters like Santana won't have to be a Leadoff type of batter. Villar at 3b forget the batting profile if he provides a team with an absolute Beast of a Leadoff hitter. BA/OB and SB ability. It's not like the Team has 3b coming in the pipeline that fit the 3b profile type of hitter you want.

Lucas Herceg while off to a fantastic Bat, has just 4HRs in 180ABs. 3.5times that is 14HRs for a Season's worth of ABs. Boston Leads all of MLB in runs scored per game. 14HRs by their 3b. That's a pace of about 19-20 on the season. Ortiz has 25HRs leading the team. Mookie Betts at 23. Jackie Bradley at 17. 5 Hitters with .800+ OPS. That to me is what matters. If Villar can stay .780-800+ OPS. It's productive enough for a team to win and be competitive and score runs.

Personally I would trade Gennett, move Villar to 2B, Santana back in RF, and let Perez play 3B. I don't know if Perez is anything more than a fluke, but I would not trade him for peanuts without finding out. He is only 25, showing 20+ homer power, and a very efficient 40+ stolen base potential. Perez could be valuable....very valuable.

Maybe down the road Isan Diaz makes it to the MLB squad and we can shift Villar over to 3B, but he is a long way off. For now I would move Villar to 2B.

Best case scenario for Diaz is probably a MLB arrival of 2019. He is still in Low A.

Hopefully Villar is able to keep up what he has been doing this year. It's by far his best year at any level. Nothing he has done previously indicates this is his new normal. He has had a nice split between BA and OBP in his career but I still would expect him to hit worse next year. I would expect him to hit like he did last year going forward.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I agree with this. My only caveat would be that I don't actually know which of 2b and 3b is better for Villar and Perez. I'm pretty sure both guys can play both positions. So if the team prefers Villar's glove at 3b and Perez's glove at 2b, that's fine too.

I would love to be able to use Perez as a permanent supersub. Having a guy like that on the roster would be so valuable -- get him 450 PAs at three or four (or five or six) different positions. It isn't feasible, mainly because he's a starter on our depth chart now but also, I suspect, because good players balk at having to play a lot of positions and not having a regular starting gig. I get that, but it would be a great asset.

While I certainly like what Perez is bringing to the table (power, speed, good D), I think the sample size is small enough that he really doesn't have a gripe if he's still in a "super sub" role next year. I can't imagine if he's not slotted in as a starter somewhere that he still wouldn't see 400+ plate apperances, and the opportunity to continue to prove that he belongs. He's got to improve that walk rate if he really wants to show that he's starter material.
