Link Report for Tuesday 8/2 - An "Arcia-Less" Link Report

Mass Haas
So's Brent Suter, blanking Oklahoma City.

So far: 6 IP, 6 H, 6 K - NO WALKS.

Make it 7 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 0 ER...

94 pitches.

EDIT: And he is pulled for a PH in the 7th...

What kind of a prospect is Suter? Strengths and style? Hard thrower or finesse?

Dunno, I haven't seen him pitch. What I do know: he was a 31st-round pick.

What I am seeing are the numbers at Colorado Springs... 3.31 ERA after this start (at home, mind you), only 3 HR allowed over the whole season, grand total of 13 walks over the season. They speak for themselves.

Soft tossing, lefty, with good command.... Harvard brain. Solid #5 if needed in back end of rotation.... Probably will forever be most famous for the Harvard Call Me Maybe viral vide he was in.

If you ask the right people on here like you did, you will learn all about how he is our #1 prospect & future Ace/ Cy Young winner.... Kershaw, Sale, Madbum have real competition for top Lefty in baseball....

For today though.... Segura & Lucroy Trade look nice, as does our 2016 draft! Phillips on other hand is simply lost at plate

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used

Suter's numbers prior to today's game: 3.56 ERA, 1.3 BB9, 3 HR, 5.00 K/BB ratio in 91 IP

Pitcher A's numbers: 6.05 ERA, 5.4 BB9, 3 HR, 2.13 KBB ratio in 38.2 IP

Pitcher B's numbers: 6.81 ERA, 6.2 BB9, 12 HR, 1.20 K/BB ratio in 78.2 IP

Pitchers A and B were highly-touted in the pre-season - making the top 5 in the pre-season poll. Pitcher A is Josh Hader. Pitcher B is Jorge Lopez, who is back in AA.

I think the crafty lefty might work.

He doesn't throw hard at all, but I've read he's smart guy (went to Harvard), and knows how to pitch within himself.

Brinson Powers Sky Sox To 7-3 Win

Newest Sky Sox backs strong Suter start to lead Sky Sox past OKC

By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Colorado Springs Box Score

What a debut for new Brewer prospect Lewis Brinson. Batting third in the lineup and playing CF, Brinson went 4-4, stole a base and scored three runs as the Sky Sox beat up the Oklahoma City Dodgers 7-3. Garrett Cooper and Garin Cechinni added two hits, with the latter getting an triple and an HR to go with three RBI. On the mound, Brent Suter was outstanding, limiting the Dodgers to no runs on six hits to pick up the win. He struck out six while walking no one.

The Dodgers got close in the 8th, plating three runs to pull within one. But Cechinni hit his fourth HR in the bottom half of the inning to put the game out of reach.

Colorado Springs Game Log

After struggling much of the season, Michael Reed has gotten his batting average over .250 (.253, to be exact). With his high walk total, his OBP is over .370 on the year.

Rattlers Earn Split in Peoria with 6-5 win

Diaz, Erceg each homer and drive in two for Rattlers

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

The pitching left something to be desired as Corbin Burnes, David Lucroy, and Jack Brown all gave up runs, but Quintin Torres-Costa was clean in relief of Lucroy and picked up the win. Not that I wish ill on any prospect, but Lucroy hasn't been getting it done for a while, however I think he stays because it would look terrible if he was demoted or let go right after his brother was traded.

The hitting was fun again as Troy Stokes (3-4,2B,BB), Isan Diaz (2-5,HR,2B), Lucas Erceg (2-5,HR,2B), and Jonathan Oquendo (2-4) all had multi games. This was Oquendo's first game and he definitely hit the ground running. Unfortunately Luis Aviles has been on a slow yet steady decline since June 23rd and he's only hitting .081 in his last 10 games.

I've been a Suter skeptic, but he's earned a shot. We have two starters who are pretty much dumpster fires. I'd like to see what Suter can do.

I'm fine with Suter getting a shot if for no other reason than stopping Clancy from flooding the minor league forum with posts about him. ;)

It certainly won't hurt the big club to give him an opportunity.

In truth I'm pretty much up for giving just about anyone the organization deems worthy some playing time to see what they have, but it probably won't go over so well on the MLB forum.

He still had a boatload of walks and was perfect in steals. I'm not all that worried. There is probably some unknown context we will discover at a later time. For now, his first 3 months are probably much more indicative of his true skill. Impatience will do him no good.

Yes, the best reason to promote him is to remove his prospect status :)

TheCrew07, have you been able to watch Zack Brown pitch in person? If so, what kind of radar readings are you seeing and how is his curve and change? MLB.com draft scouting report says regularly 93-94 with sinking fastball touching 96. High effort delivery or fairly easy?

Unfortunately no, my schedule has matched up with any Rattler home series in months. I've only caught bits and pieces of the televised games since mid June, it's just been one of those years.

edit. The game I was able to watch the most of was Miguel Diaz last televised start, whenever I mentioned his arm slot was different on 7 pitches in a row.
