Perrin with another really nice outing. Having a great season.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Rattlers Beat Peoria 3-1

Diaz, Drossner, Griep hold Chiefs to one run

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

This is a good day as the Brewers acquired more talent and the Rattlers ended their 3 game skid. Miguel Diaz was once again bitten by the HR, but it was a solo shot, and the only run he allowed. The walks were way down which was awesome, but the strike outs were too. I mentioned in mid July that his arm slot was all over the place so he's definitely still a major work in progress, but I confess that I have a man crush on him. For whatever reason Jake Drossner has pitched better all year in relief, I have no rational explanation for it as his FB command isn't any better in relief, but it was a very nice bounce back outing for Jake. Once again his secondary stuff is very good, the only thing holding Drossner back is his FB command which suggests that if he makes it he'll be a reliever.

No Rattler had a multi hit game but after homering yesterday David Denson dropped a double, it's been a while since he had back to back days with an XBH, unless I made a mistake you have to go all the way back to 5/14 and 5/15 for the last occurrence.

Isan Diaz started the year on a defensive tear and then gradually started trying to be too fancy or rather always try to make the fantastic play. He didn't have an error until his 13th game, and only had 2 in the first month, but then things got out of control in May and June, though he's settled back in now committing just 5 errors in July. His error today bumped his total 27 on the year, and of those errors more than half are in the bad decision category as he's an excellent fielder. On the plus side Isan's 1-3 day with a BB pushed his AVE up to .270 and he's firmly back in the BB lead with 48 on the season, Denson is sitting at 45, and then 3rd place is all the way down to Troy Strokes with just 28. Trent Clark has also been a BB machine with 22 in 114 ABs.

Final: Brevard County 4, Charlotte 1

Perrin's complete game earns Manatees series split

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

***

Brevard County Box Score

There is plenty of buzz surrounding the pitching talent in Brevard County, and Jon Perrin reminds us tonight not to leave his name out of the conversation. His complete game gem is nicely documented in the story and includes an insightful quote from Perrin about locating his fastball, change-up, and slider for strikes. After giving up just 3 hits and 0 walks, Perrin's WHIP drops to 1.17 in 85.2 innings in Brevard County. That ranks him 9th best in the Florida State League among qualified pitchers. Not quite as impressive as his 0.89 WHIP in Wisconsin this year, but still quite good nevertheless.

Top hitting performances included George Iskenderian (2-for-3, 3B, BB) and Blake Allemand (2-for-4).

Brevard County Game Log

The Manatees got off to a fast start including a leadoff double by Corey Ray.

Brevard County Bottom of the 1st

  • Corey Ray hits a ground-rule double (4) on a fly ball to right field.
Fidel Pena flies out to center fielder Thomas Milone.
George Iskenderian singles on a ground ball to third baseman Alec Sole. Corey Ray to 3rd.
Clint Coulter called out on strikes.
Blake Allemand singles on a ground ball to second baseman Andrew Velazquez. Corey Ray scores. George Iskenderian to 2nd.
Elvis Rubio singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jace Conrad. George Iskenderian scores. Blake Allemand to 3rd.
Wendell Rijo reaches on a fielding error by third baseman Alec Sole. Blake Allemand scores. Elvis Rubio to 2nd.
    Jose Cuas strikes out swinging.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Final: Arizona Rookie Diamondbacks 3, Arizona Brewers 1

Maryvale Box Score

32nd round UA-Huntsville RHP Wilson Adams, 19-year-old Venezuelan RHP Nelson Hernandez, and first-year stateside 23-year-old LHP Boanerges Nova combined to strike out 11 while walking none, but fell victim in this low-scoring contest.

A-Crew bats managed only four singles and three walks, yet managed to have ten at-bats with RISP. They failed miserably in those situations, though, 0-for-10. A night after we praised the club's defense on the season, three errors here, although none led to unearned runs.

It's been a few weeks since we mentioned CF Jose Gomez is just 5'3", the 22-year-old RH bat reached three times here, now with a .419 OBP.

Maryvale Game Log

AZL Brewers Top of the 2nd

Pitching Change: Luis Madero replaces Andrew Chafin.

Gabriel Garcia grounds out, shortstop Didimo Bracho to first baseman Nic Coffman.

Jay Feliciano grounds out, third baseman Joey Rose to first baseman Nic Coffman.

Nick Cain grounds out, third baseman Joey Rose to first baseman Nic Coffman.

AZL D-backs Bottom of the 2nd

Defensive Substitution: Ignacio Otano replaces right fielder Jay Feliciano, batting 5th, playing right field.

20-year-old 6'2", 215 OF Jay Feliciano has some pop, slugging a healthy .463 in the desert. Hopefully OK, something to watch...

OK, to show you the odd schedule my body's on right now, it's 4:18 AM (3:18 Central), and I just saw the first headline regarding Orlando Arcia's call-up, and I'm trying to process what that all means at the big league level.

Alrighty, then...

March 4, 2011 -- the very first mention of Orlando Arcia on this forum belongs to our old friend Eric:

Baseball America's Ben Badler recapped the Brewers' 2010 international signings in a subscribers-only piece. He brought to light three new players: 6'2", 175-lb. 17-year-old LHP Marcos Padilla, 6'6", 190-lb. 17-year-old RHP Pedro Peguero, and 6'1", 165-lb. 16-year-old middle infielder Orlando Arcia.

Padilla apparently runs his fastball up to 89 and has a good curveball and decent changeup. Peguero touches 92 with his heater but doesn't have much in the way of secondary stuff. Arcia has "solid tools across the board" and while currently a shortstop might end up at second base.

Padilla was released in August 2014, having never advanced beyond the Dominican Summer League. Peguero retired in November of 2014, likewise never reaching stateside.

Did the third kid - the 16 year old SS who might be destined for 2B - ever do anything of note?
