2017 Competitive Balance Lottery pushed to January

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/189677192/pipeline-inbox-prospects-with-rising-stocks/

Typically, the Competitive Balance Lottery has been held in late July. Introduced when the current Collective Bargaining Agreement began in December 2011, the lottery gave teams that have either one of the 10 smallest markets or 10 smallest revenue pools a chance to obtain extra Draft picks. Six picks have been awarded after each of the first and second rounds. Any teams that received revenue-sharing funds that didn't fit in either group of 10 have been added to the mix for the picks following the second round, or Competitive Balance Round B.

I was using past tense because the future of the Lottery is a bit up in the air, because the current Agreement will expire this year and a new one will have to be collectively bargained by Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association. As part of those negotiations, it's possible the format of the Lottery will change in 2017. As a result, both MLB and the MLBPA agreed to postpone the Lottery until Jan. 25, 2017, to give them time to adjust to any changes.

So for those of you waiting for the competitive balance lottery results, you're going to have to wait.

Good catch, thanks. This collective bargaining agreement will be important.

Man, I hope we get an international draft. That would really help the Brewers. We obviously have Arcia, and Franly Mallen is showing signs of life. We will see about Lara. He's athletic and young but so were D'Vontrey Richardson or Mike Felder once.

You look at other teams' prospects and see the damage they are doing internationally and it is out of whack. We can do better internationally. A draft would put teams on a more even playing field.

I wouldn't mind teams having to forfeit draft picks to sign a player. Assign a draft pick to a signing bonus value. Sign a kid for $4 million, forego your 1st round pick.

I'd also love to see things changed so a team can't add players AND get compensation picks for losing guys. I'd like MLB to adopt an NFL-like policy whereby a commission determines how teams did in free agency, comparing losses and additions. Draft picks would be awarded at the end of rounds 1-5 based on net losses.

edit: oops, there you go. iPad mistake

Took 45 secs but I figured Hot Tea,s was meant to be How Teams. Lol I was dumbfounded there for half a minute on what could Hot Tea LMAO :laughing what could it mean? I can understand the , over the M since it's next to it, the T instead of the W was a different kind of error gotta be a phone auto mistake.

Anyway, now it's known what was supposed to be there. I'll delete this when you edit the words but keep it here to clarify the misunderstanding for now. But I enjoyed the laugh so good mistype. NFL London would clearly get lots of compensation for their hot teas I'm sure ;) :laughing
