DSL Tigers 8, DSL Brewers 0

The losing streak reaches 7. Joaquin De La Cruz went 6 innings giving up 4 runs, all of them unearned, and got the loss. He had 4 Ks in the 6 innings with no walks. He gave up 6 hits. The 7 Brewers errors did not help.

Offensively, the Brewers got 6 hits and 5 walks but couldn't get any runners across the plate. Luis Manon had 2 hits to go with his 2 throwing errors. Antonio Pinero also had 2 hits. Moises Perez and Javier Castillo had 2 walks each.

The bigger question is how come Lopez didn't start Friday's game?

As mentioned in Thursday's Link Report:

Final (Game One): Charlotte 5, Brevard County 4

Allemand homers in game one loss to Charlotte

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

Brevard County Game One Box Score

With some rough starts over the past couple of months it is nice to see Bubba Derby with a solid outing (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO). He threw 60 of his 82 pitches for strikes. Derby did give up a home run, and has now given up 14 long balls this season which ranks as the second most in the Florida State League this season.

Outside of Blake Allemand's home run, only Dustin DeMuth (1-for-2, 2B) had an extra base hit. DeMuth now has 103 hits on the season which is the third most in FSL. Other notable hitters were George Iskenderian (2-for-3) and Fidel Pena (2-for-3).

Brevard County Game One Game Log

The Manatees tied the game in the top of the 7th, but unfortunately as you read in the game story it didn't take Charlotte long to get the walk-off win in the 7th inning against Kender Villegas (just 6 pitches to be exact).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Final (Game Two): Charlotte 3, Brevard County 2

Stone Crabs complete doubleheader sweep of Manatees

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

***

Brevard County Game Two Box Score

Starter Eric Hanhold appears to have had some control problems while giving up 4 hits and 4 walks which led to 3 runs over his 3.0 innings pitched. Zach Hirsch had much better results allowing just 2 hits, 0 walks, 0 runs, and striking out 4 over his 3.0 innings.

Only 4 hits for the Manatees in game two. The two hits that counted most were Corey Ray's leadoff double (followed by a stolen base and run scored), and George Iskenderian's 4th inning solo home run.

Brevard County Game Two Game Log

The bottom of the 5th inning started with a Clint Coulter outfield assist at second base on a base hit. According to the game story the fly ball initially dropped out of Coulter's glove, but he was able to corral it and throw a dart to SS Jose Cuas for the out.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Isan Diaz has a 1135 OPS in the second half. He has long passed ridiculous.

Was there any doubt MiLB.com would do yet another overnight feature post on Mr. Diaz? Thank you, Dave Stewart!

The story below does not include additional quotes, but thanks to the sweet interview archives from the Rattler Radio blog linked above, you already heard from the young man and several others...

Final: Colorado Springs 5, Round Rock 4, 12 innings

Wow, what a game, as each team scored two in the 11th - not just the Timber Rattlers walking off on this night! Enjoy the recap below.

VIDEO via KRDO: Early-game action, including the pickoff by Josh Hader discussed in the game summary

"After the rough first inning, Hader settled down. After a leadoff walk in the second, Sky Sox pitching coach Fred Dabney went to the mound to chat with his young pitcher. Hader responded by picking off Patrick Cantwell from first base to get the first out of the inning."

Colorado Springs Box Score

Really encouraging work being done by Michael Blazek; new waiver claim RHP Rob Scahill touched up in two consecutive outings after a scoreless Brewers organization debut appearance.

Catcher Manny Pina (.921 OPS), again batting 3rd, singled twice and walked - is anybody following the Jonathan Lucroy saga more than Pina?

Two doubles, a triple, and the 18th AAA stolen base for CF Keon Broxton, yeah, that's a good night. Broxton has a .999 OPS in 17 July AAA games - what happens to this young man at the big league level?

"Pensacola's Sal Romano (3-10) earned his third win of the season against Biloxi."

So 0-10 against the rest of the league? Yikes, c'mon Shuckers. ERA 4.25, the guy's not reflective of his record.

Seven-year vet and brand new Shucker Tom Belza (.390 career SLG) was Biloxi's cleanup hitter, guess that speaks to the state of this Biloxi offense right now.
