Wisconsin scores 12 in win over Fort Wayne

Rattlers bang out 16 hits in 12-3 win over TinCaps

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

This year's Rattler team isn't good defensively, though individually they have the possibility to be, but the Tin Caps are terrible having committed 119 errors in 97 games.

Well Miguel Diaz has completely lost his arm slot, which is why he's been on a downward trend for him. The most memorable batter for me was the second hitter in the 3rd, Miguel was up 0-2, and ended up walking the batter, and he threw every pitch with a different arm slot. His off speed stuff is filthy for this level; his change is average, flashing above average, and his curve flashes plus... there's plenty of potential, he reminds me a little of Jorge Lopez who had a similar issue when he was in WI.

Jake Drossner locates his off speed better than his FB, which is why his strike out totals are so high but he still gives up hits and runs.

Yesterday was so busy I just skimmed over Lucas Erceg. He's got a nice smooth line drive type swing and while he hasn't had many defensive chances he showcased his arm in his only assist last night.

These games with awesome offensive output are fun but take forever to play, 5 Rattlers put up multi-hit games including Jake Gatewood (3-5,2B), Isan Diaz (3-4,2B,BB), Luis Aviles (3-5), Max McDowell (2-3,BB), and Carlos Belonis (2-5,2B).

I caught the latest episode of Timber Rattlers Season Pass before the game, the conversations between Chuckie Caufield and David Denson are enlightening if you have TWC and some free time.

Ah, the nuances of save chances. Brevard's Jon Olczak was presented a none-out, bases-loaded situation behind Freddy Peralta and only allowed one run (on his wild pitch, as you read). Yes, a blown save, but karma's good here, and Olczak gets the win after the top of the 10th Manatee run.

Colorado Springs Box Score

Mitch Haniger dominated, the very latest he'll make his Diamondbacks big league debut is September 1st, it seems; three Orlando Arcia errors in two games, no worries there; Keon Broxton caught stealing for the 8th time in 25 AAA attempts...

Colorado Springs Game Log

Based on the audio link in the prior post, sounds like Rick Sweet's mustache may be coming off today due to the 0-8 road trip.

Final: Helena 4, Idaho Falls 3

Brewers Back on Track with 4-3 Win

Desguin Improves to 2-0

By Craig Durham / Helena Brewers

HELENA, MT - Another strong start from Jordan Desguin set up another home victory for the Helena Brewers, 4-3 over the Idaho Falls Chukars in the opening game of a four game series at Kindrick Legion Field.

Desguin improved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 2.75 with six innings of four hit, one run ball. The righty struck out four and did not walk a batter.

The Brewers scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings to carry a 3-1 lead into the 5th. Helena added another in the 6th on a pair of Idaho Falls errors to make it 4-1.

Jonathan Oquendo led the offense with a 2-for-2 night and Franly Mallen recorded a pair of RBI's.

The Chuckars scored a pair off Wuilder Rodriguez in the top of the 8th to make it 4-3 going into the 9th, but Colton Cross was waiting. Cross worked around a leadoff single to record his third save of the season, striking out a pair including Angelo Castellano to end the ballgame.

The Brewers are now 8-5 at home, and will look to make it two in a row when the Chukars return on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM (8:05 Central) and Nash Walters will make the start for the Brewers opposite Matt Portand for the Chukars.

Desguin, defense lift Brewers to kick off home stand with win

Three PHOTOS at the link

It's been a forgetful month for the Helena Brewers.

But while July -- where the Brewers have posted a shoddy 4-14 mark -- has made capturing a first-half Pioneer League North crown a pipe dream, hard-throwing right-hander Jordan Desguin has continued to deal.

Desguin impressed again Thursday night in a 4-3 edging of the Pioneer League South-leading Idaho Falls Chukars at Kindrick Legion Field.

The former Florida Gulf Coast University hurler went six innings, giving up just one run, four hits, struck out four and didn't register a walk.

Desguin's ERA improved to a team-best 2.75 after the win, which snapped the club's three-game losing streak.

"I've mainly just been focusing on throwing strikes with all four of my pitches," said Desguin, who also has a team-high 37 strikeouts. "And the way my defense has been playing behind me, it just gives me a lot of confidence."

Last-place Helena (12-20) didn't commit an error behind Desguin, reliever Wuilder Rodriguez or closer Colton Cross. Conversely, the Chukars (19-13) tallied four, which ultimately dictated the outcome.

The Brewers played small ball early, scoring their first two runs by way of fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly before a Franly Mallen RBI single in the fourth inning. When Mallen reached first by way of a throwing error in the sixth inning, Jonathan Oquendo crossed home to give the Brewers their final tally.

With second-round draft pick and Brewers hits and average leader Lucas Erceg promoted to Low-A Wisconsin on Tuesday, the Brewers didn't have the same pop in their lineup.

Fortunately for Helena, a clean defense -- and pair of hustle run-down pop-outs by Joantgel Segovia that would have likely tied the contest in the late innings-- coupled with a conservative offensive approach was enough.

The Brewers improved to 8-5 at home but are 5-15 on the road.

Desguin believes the Brewers can shore things up.

"It's nice to throw well, obviously, but it'd be sweeter to be like where we were at the beginning of the season," he said. "But I have no doubt we'll get back to that."

There are some highly intelligent people on this forum, that being said, maybe some of them can explain this to me. Why would Austin Ross and Tyler Cravy pitch in back to back nights...one high leverage, next low leverage. When there are 8 or 9 relievers on team and at least 4 haven't see action in a couple days, I personally think this is how you could injure someone.
