Heralded RHP prospect Anderson Espinoza makes his San Diego organization debut

Think there may be a few high-ranking Padres executives in the Appleton area tonight?

If they are then they will likely get rained on, it's not looking good.

Does anyone know T Rats rotation well enough to know probable pitchers for this Sat and Sun games? I will likely be at one or the other, would be nice to know who may be on the hill. Thanks

The Wisconsin Media Notes will be indicating that Trey Supak gets the start Saturday, Thomas Jankins on Sunday. If things hold as they have been, Devin Williams will be Supak's tandem partner on Saturday.

Or not, what crazy weather, at 1 PM it looked like we had a huge storm coming but it never rained at all and when I looked at the radar everything is dissipating as moves across the state.

DSL Rockies 5, DSL Brewers 3

(Regularly scheduled game)

The Brewers managed only 2 hits and 1 walk in this 7 inning game. Moises Perez and Marcos Pinero both doubled.

Jenri Montas went 4 1/3 in taking the loss. He had a great 6/0 K/BB game but gave up 10 hits and 3 runs.

Erceg gets a single in his first A ball AB

Ghelfi is 3 for 4. This is insane. He's hitting like .500 in July

Must have signed just before first pitch, from the Transaction Thread:

Brewers pick up recently-released just-turned 26-year-old "play anywhere" utility man Tom Belza, a LH bat who was drafted out of Oklahoma State by Arizona back in the no-longer-exists 43rd round in 2010.

Belza was 0-for-1 (K), later adding an RBI on a bases-loaded walk, entering on a double-shift Wednesday night for Biloxi, playing third base. Familiar with the Southern League, as Belza had been with the D-Backs' Mobile squad as recently as July 9th.

The Brewers have really had to fill in at AA - the Manatees were so very young to start the season, with so few distinguishing themselves, that there has not been the opportunity to reward the group at High-A with promotions to match the need.

Final: Brevard County 1, Palm Beach 0

Ponce shuts out Palm Beach

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

***

Brevard County Box Score

A series win offers a little something to smile about, and against the Cardinals organization no less!

The final line for Cody Ponce was noted earlier in the thread, overall another solid outing. With 3 walks issued it was the first time this season he has issued more than 1 walk in an outing (and it nearly equaled his total number for the season which was at 4). Even after the uncharacteristic free passes, in 36.0 innings this season Ponce has 41 K's to a still low 7 walks.

The Manatees had runners in scoring position just twice, luckily they were 1-for-2 in those opportunities. Palm Beach on the other hand was 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

The only multi-hit effort for the Manatees was Malik Collymore (2-for-3).

Brevard County Game Log

With two outs in the 3rd inning Corey Ray's first career triple followed by Wendell Rijo's single tallied the games only run.

Brevard County Top of the 3rd

  • Jose Cuas bunt grounds out, catcher Steve Bean to first baseman Casey Grayson.
Malik Collymore pops out to shortstop Oscar Mercado.
Corey Ray triples (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Orlando Olivera.
Wendell Rijo singles on a line drive to center fielder Vaughn Bryan. Corey Ray scores.
Dustin DeMuth flies out to center fielder Vaughn Bryan.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Think I figured out who Mitch Ghelfi will remind us of (well, except the catching part).

Do you all remember 1B/OF Andrew Lefave?

Do you remember the South Atlantic League 2007 batting title while with the West Virginia Power? .345/.432/525 that year (.957 OPS in his 2nd pro season as an undrafted free agent signing in 2006).

Lefave became the PTBNL when the Brewers acquired LHP Ray King from the Nationals for his 2nd turn with the Brewers in a rare post-August 31st trade in 2007.

Hopefully for Ghelfi, his career will extend further than Lefave's, who only played one more season of pro ball, done at age 24.

Loved finding this brief old BrewCrewBall write-up when our friend Eric (aka battlekow/Sessile Fielder) was moonlighting at BCB.

Mr. Flanigan, with the recent promotions, please do not forget about Ghelfi. Guy has been an absolute monster and really has zero left to prove in A ball. Lol geez that guy is just flat out on FIRE right now! Free Ghelfi! Not to mention guy plays some tough baseball. Last game I went to, he went full Prince Fielder and absolute smoked the Catcher at home.....took a few minutes to get the catcher back up and moving!

Erceg..... 3 hit night..... the usual for him!

Fun stats since 2nd half of season mark

Troy Stokes .304 .444 .456 .900 4 2B - 13B - 2 HR

Jake Gatewood 8 2B - 3 HR - 18 RBI -7BB ...... had only 3 bbs in 1st half. hitting .260/.300/ .730... not great turning corner though

Isan Diaz .316 .393 .633 1.026 with 6 2B, 2 3B, 7 HRS, 12 BB, 17 RBI

Problem I have seen with Gatewood and teams I think are attacking him like crazy with it is he greatly struggles with outside pitches....If I was a pitcher, I would through all sliders on the outside of the plate and know he won't touch them. Maybe that is me from what I have notice from going to watch him but yeah, you can tell he is a pull guy who wants something inside.

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used
