How much does a scout get paid?

Not politically correct, I realize, but after looking at the Brewer scouting staff, and seeing 5 scouts in Canada alone, I was interested, as the expenditure seems great. Are there bonus structures inherent when a scout has a player signed?

Depends...

 

No bonuses for signing players. Clubs used to do that but realized it was bad business.

 

Ex: Scout sees a kid he thinks is a borderline prospect. He then props up his evaluation of the kid to get him signed to make himself some money. Not good business.

 

Average starting salary for an area scout is about $30K (depends on organization and experience).

 

But...they get an expense account, a car (and insurance), and the MLB health plan. Plus you get to watch baseball for a living.
